The Telegraph: Swansea-Russell Martin on 15:01 - Apr 15 by QJumpingJack
It is probably worth watching the press conferences Martin did around the Southampton vs Swansea fixtures this season. I can remember one comment being "I like the people who are based in Swansea". Read between the lines.....
Of course it’s Levien and Kaplan nothing more.
A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

I would imagine Steve and Jason were bemused and a little concerned that their manager fell out with not one or two forwardd but THREE all at once. Before that Lowe was given a one way ticket out of the club.
When Russ demanded "help up top" they recalled Whitaker and hoped that perhaps Russ and Morgan could patch things up for the good of the team ( in the so called bad window)
Not a bit of it. Martin told the world. " The ownership group bought him back with a view to selling him". No they brought him back as League 1 played of the season to score goals and win football games. .

Southampton wanted Martin in May before the Premier League and Championship seasons an had started and Martin had stopped working before the seasons were over.
Swansea appear to have a strong case that the deal was formulated when Southampton were a Premier league club with Premier league income.

It may well come down to the day he became manager which was June 21st, not when the approach was made. This is the argument between Swansea and Southampton. The other point was was he told not to fly or did he refuse, I was told at the time that he was told not to fly if he was interested in talking to Southampton. The outcome will depend on points of law which John may enlighten us with.

we also need to know the dates that the owners decided to bring in Watson and Coleman and let Winter go. These also need to be factored in.

Probably not that cut and dried.
Just from our previous history, we know that Martinez had agreed to move to Wigan weeks before it actually happened because Whelan let it slip that he had. If the club can prove contact between Southampton and Martin before their relegation from the Prem was officially confirmed, then we absolutely have to try and get our rightful due even if it's to stop others thinking that they can do the same.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I know, employment law is an absolute minefield to a layman. There are many variables to conside, did anyone officially terminate the contract and when, at what point did Martin stop enjoying full employee benefits, salary, company car, accommodation ect fine points but all crucial.

Why is this relevant ? There was no issue of Martin being sacked. The only issue was if he would get an extension. It seems to be Martin did well after he was encouraged to perform better by Kaplan in March. I do not t know but it seems to me he was told to pull his finger out. It worked. It usually does but football people have egos.

It is relevant. When did Watson start working for the club. The Athletic broke the story well before the end of last season.
Maybe Watson's arrival impacted Russell - just a question, not a factual statement. And maybe Winter's departure did impact Russell's decision to stay/leave?

I also think it’s relevant. It probably also could strengthen his constructive dismissal case that Nathan Jones a rumoured replacement was his new bosses guest of honour on several occasions.

On May 8th there were talks on extending his deal. The flight to the USA was booked to this end. No sign whatsoever that his position was in danger. Constructive dismissal?
Martin stopped working or Swansea when the trip to USA was cancelled. 25 May at the latest.
He was going to Southampton. They wanted to formalise on Monday the 22nd May as per Mail headline. Perhaps then they realised by delaying it they could save £1m in compensation.
It looks to an outsider as if Martin was already working in Southampton's interest while officially Swansea's manager. This is not a fact just speculation.
Fans need to forget about bloody Nathan Jones.

why should we forget about Nathan Jones?
Watson claimed it was a coincidence that they were sat next to each other at Bournemouth in January 2024 but was this the first time they had sat next to each other this season at a Swansea away game?

Jones is his friend and as far as I am concerned if he reviewed the Swansea game he watched and gave opinions on players I would not be worried at all. Low work ethic and lack of intensity can be identified by anyone.
Jones might have told him for example Joe Taylor is an absolute diamond. Steve Cooper once said " there is a good player in there in my opinion". He was pants according to this forum 2 years ago. £100m Viktor Gyoreres was the player.

Again, we should probably stop pretending that "man watches football match with friend" is some kind of gotcha.
