It was Blair that allowed unrestricted access from all the new EU countries. He said at time there was no need to put restrictions in place as only a few thousand would want to come.
Tony Blair had nothing to do with the coalition and continued Conservative majorities deciding not to enforce rules. It was cheaper to keep people on the sausage roll rather than deport after 3 months.
When people talk about immigrants offering diversity, they're talking about the people who help run the NHS, police our streets, care for our elderly, play for our football teams, enhance our culture thtough the arts etc.
If you want your points to be taken seriously, it should be clear your talking about the 30k odd who have entered the country illegaly over the last year, not the 700k who arived here legally, supporting our country's services and industries.
The case in the story is clear - man came here illegally from Albania and will most likley be deported if we can get the precess right. Which is correct. Nothing to do with diversity.

Here is yet another pseudo-HOMELESS infiltrator with yet more 'diversity' to offer with more of the usual that only fools WOKE apologist loons who chant "say it loud, say it clear refugees are welcome here".

Yeah he really fled "troubles" innit!
Who exactly is saying we should be welcoming Albanian illegal immigrants in the name of diversity?

Blair’s decision which was broadly supported by ALL the political parties at the time was clearly wrong and the estimate of the numbers arriving was well wide of the mark.
Between 2004 and 2014 we had about 850,000 immigrants from Central European countries Blair relaxed the rules on. Last year, we had 1.2m, yes that’s 1.2m immigrants arrive in the U.K. - net migration was 745,000 people which is not far off the number who came to the U.K. from Central Europe over a10 year period. This year is forecast be very similar to last year so another net increase of around 750,000.
All this is taking place post Brexit when we’ve allegedly taken back control of our borders.
Blaire was wrong with his decision making and it should be called out, but what’s happening now is on a much much bigger scale.

Agree with most of this. There is an interesting article below suggesting that politicians who miscalculated the likely volume of migration from the A8 countries were preoccupied by wider political and economic considerations.
I think some responsibility also needs to be placed on the poor projections coming from migration researchers such as Christian Dustmann, who estimated that EU enlargement would only result in between 5,000 to 13,000 more net immigrants per year. At that time, civil servants like Portes were enthusing about the economic benefits of immigration, and I'd argue that the ideology affected the science. From today's standpoint the economic benefits of 20 years of large-scale immigration don't look so clear. If one put a graph of changes in per capita productivity against one of net immigration the result doesn't look great. Nor have labour shortages in key sectors disappeared - the argument always seems to be that more overseas workers are needed, even as the proportion of the population born abroad increases.

Really good points.
I wonder if at the time it wasn’t envisaged that UK nationals wouldn’t take up lower paid jobs and they’d end up being filled by immigrants. (Or of course that the cost of living would increase to the point that there jobs wouldn’t cover life’s basics.)
All we seem to have done is replace EU immigrants for non-EU immigrants.
The Irish people don't want illegal immigrants either. They also don't want fellow EU citizens living there as well, as they refuse to join the Schengan Area.
That chant that has been going on in recent years and was heard in Llanelli when it was chanted by bused in counter protesters?
"Say it loud say it clear refugees are welcome here" that applies to anyone (no questions asked!) who arrives via a small boat. And heard outside of Bibby Stockholm barge protest where Albanians are part of the quota... All seeking "asylum" like the recentley arrested Albanian drug gang member.
Part of the reason I advocate for safe routes it would help pull the public together for tougher measures for those who do enter illegally.
Meanwhile over here, The Times shared this story; and example of what happens when systems are poor:
Excl: Home Office officials have told ministers it'll be impossible to clear the remaining asylum backlog.
55,533 migrants are stuck in limbo because they arrived since March, when new provisions came into effect barring them from permanent settlement:https://t.co/0Ea8xIIVK3
The Conservative Party has only had 14 years to do something about it to be fair. It’s obviously high priority for them.
Amazing that both main parties ( and I suspect the lesser ones should they ever get into power) are as corrupt as each other , we've allowed this to fester and with no end in sight hence the reluctance for many to get involved in politics let alone vote
"In a free society, the State is the servant of the people—not the master."
What may surprise some of you is that the World Health Organisation (a UN organisation) and other influential international bodies like the ILO and USAID see Rwanda as a bit of an African poster child when it comes to health care. Before the issue of asylum seekers hit the news the discourse about progress made since the internal strife was quite different.
Given that most African countries have less developed healthcare systems is there anywhere on that continent that left-liberal opinion would deem a safe destination for asylum seekers?

When we want to live in another land,we are vetted thoroughly. That’s because no country wants the unknown flocking into their country with no checks whatsoever. It is madness to encourage illegals immigrants in any way shape or firm. They risk coming here and part of that should mean the risk of being refused entry
