Both BBC Sport and Sky Sports have just announced that Saints are the first premiership club to do this. Fair play Saints.

We have always been a very fair and decent club, unlike that rabble down the road that would have used this no doubt, to their massive advantage.

The only bad air around here is you guys farting around.

Brilliant, the right thing to do, and the first club to do it

Saints have eventually publicised a decent and praiseworthy stance.

Yep, the taxpayer is picking up the tab for the majority of their players' wages.

Standby to standby

This seems like a decent move. However, the wages are only being "deferred". The players will still get their 100% wage, just paid at a later date. Who will pay for the shortfall in the end?

Agreed. What's with all this "Fair Play" nonsense? A player earns on average £50k per week, all expenses paid, so he agrees to "defer" ie postpone not cancel payment for three months, meaning if all goes to plan he will get a little wage packet of £600k (pre tax) in three months then drop back to his paltry £50k a week again. So is this it? Is this why those pillocks Lineker and Neville think they hold some kind of moral high ground? How is that then? Any player earning over the sort of money ordinary working people can only dream about - say £20k a week could forego (not defer) half their wages at least until competitive football resumes. THe money could go to any medical support charity nominated by the PFA. They can still afford new Ferraris while small traders are on their knees.

I agree with this completely. I just think Saints have done a decent thing by announcing they have no intention of taking money from the government like the other rancid clubs have so far. The players on the other hand don’t deserve all the fawning plaudits they get from the football media cronies.

This sums it up well. The club can be applauded for not furloughing staff. Although, I can see the excuses coming for having to sell players to pay for not furloughing?

But, as you say, the players have agreed to nothing. They will still get their full money, whilst other people lose their jobs and businesses.

Really don't see that it was that difficult in the first place for any club to be honest. Let's say player weekly salaries were £200k and non playing staff is £20k players take 10% pay cut to fund non playing staff who actually help them to earn the fortunes they do.

That could have been done 2 weeks ago which would've been a very proactive solution. To be honest I feel clubs are now reacting to the bad press and would've carried on the way they were heading if all had been quiet.
