In 1963(?), my parents saw the Beatles play at the Astoria in Finsbury Park and the Granada in Walthamstow.

Mic the refs up so everyone in the ground and watching at home can hear players and coaches shouting "Fu ck-off!" at the officials. Refs would be compelled to send players and managers off, managers would go mental, and sponsors would be seriously unhappy. Some players might even feel shame at the idea that their kids and Nan have heard them abusing the officials. Would probably sort the problem out in 2-3 weeks. Every episode of 'Welcome to Wrexham' sees me hoping that some fourth official smacks Phil Parkinson really hard in the mouth - unbelievable that officials put up with that.

Enforce stoppage time rules.

The first time a keeper wastes time, warn them, and the second time they do it, book them. Even if it's in the 10th minute. Booking a keeper for time-wasting in the 93rd minute is utterly pointless.

"Professional fouls" and "taking one for the team" do my head in, so to stop cynical rotating of fouls amongst players to avoid bookings, every five free-kicks you concede, you lose one of your substitutions.

Dynamic Pricing
at 16:27 4 Sep 2024

I was just looking at Real Betis tickets and they operate it too. Absolute wan k. It would maybe be a bit more forgivable if the standard ticket started at reasonable and rose to expensive with surge pricing, but it will always be expensive rising to extortionate. For people whose work patterns mean they can only book tickets late on, this would be a nightmare, when it's already difficult finding reasonably priced tickets at lots of clubs. And in a country like Spain, where they schedule games for TV about 10 minutes before they're due to kick-off, this seems especially wan k for people having to wait and see what day/time a game is taking place.

On the subject of obscene ticket prices, I'm enjoying my regular emails from Fulham begging me to spend £71+ booking fee for a seat in the Hammersmith or Putney to watch us play West Ham or Newcastle. Get fu cked.

Tout: These tickets are rare as rocking horse sh it, but if you pay me 4 x face value, I can sort you out.

Ticketmaster after the majority of tickets have been snapped up: These tickets are rare as rocking horse sh it, but if you pay us 4 x face value, we can sort you out.

It's exactly the same with football clubs taking the piss - you just need to say fuc k-off because anything else just encourages them to keep on taking liberties.

Leeds are still kicking themselves for not buying the Yorkshire Dales before they became a national park. With a bit of ingenuity, they could have built a 4 million all-seater stadium on that site with a fu ck-off car park and a bowling alley. They could have been the most massive club in the world and not just in West Yorks. Missed opportunities.

If they're not promoted by mid-September, they can always get rid and bring in Frank Lampard or Brooklyn Beckham. The flaming wheelie bins, and lights and laser show that they put on at St Andrews is too showbiz to be slumming it in League 1 for more than a season. Champions League quality razzamatazz.

"Missed redevelopment opportunities": Rangers could now be playing in a 30,000 all-seater stadium in W12, if they’d shown a bit of vision and bought the Dairy Crest site, Television centre, the Territorial Army site, the Jack Tizard school site, the Grange Hill school site, the freehold to the Springbok, the Linford Christie stadium, HMP Wormwood Scrubs, and/or Holland Park roundabout.

Yeah, a bit smaller than 20,000 but that's the one. I wanted to go and watch them play Lorient in a friendly on a Saturday night, but my wife didn't want to spend a couple of hours driving us there and back. Sad times.

CHELSEA. All Chelsea players are shi t. Even the good ones. Chelsea have 86 players in their squad; they are all shi t and on 10 year contracts. Chelsea will go bust soon (they won’t). When England get knocked out of a tournament or draw away in qualifying, it is always the fault of Mason Mount, Kerry Dixon, or Frank Lampard. Even if they're not in the squad. If Terry and Lampard had been playing for Watford, they’d have been nowhere near the England squad. Orient were bigger than Chelsea until Abramovich came along. I work with a Chelsea fan who has never heard of John Bumstead, Colin Pates, or David Lee.

Their ground is shi t, their badge is sh it, their kit is sh it, and their nickname is sh it. Their nursery rhyme song ‘One man went to mow’ is shi t, but not as shi t as their ‘Celery’ song, which is absolute sloppy dogsh it. They only got 8,000 v Southampton and 6,000 of those were Saints fans. David Mellor is a cu nt. Dennis Wise is a cu nt. John Terry is an absolute cu nt. Ashley Cole is a cu nt, and Frank LeBeuf is a total cun t. Ken Bates looked like Captain Birdseye. John Terry's mum nicked four grands worth of tube socks from Sports Direct, and she's a cu nt too.

Bit of a gutter that Brest are having to play their home CL games an hour away in Guingamp. I went past their ground a few weeks ago, and whilst it's got a bit of a Brisbane Road 1993 vibe, it seems a bit sh it that it's okay for French football but not the CL. UEFA imposed a 5,000 capacity for CL games.

"I'm totally shocked that you're getting massively irate about some slight damage to a wall outside a mosque compared to everything else that's happened this week including a load of kids murdered."

- Oh, Clive, that's not like you to be disingenuous. I'm not "massively irate about some slight damage to a wall outside a mosque", I was merely pointing out the hypocrisy from some, that when non-white people riot, and police are attacked in Harehills, and a police van is set on fire, it's a sign that society is on the brink of collapse and all the fault of liberal politicians/the media. Yet, when white blokes riot, injure 50+ police officers, and set a police van on fire, it can be dismissed as "slight damage to a wall". (You don't work as an instance loss-adjuster, do you?) I'm sure the completely innocent people sheltering in the mosque as its windows were being put through, weren't quite as sanguine as you seem about it all.

I'm consistent in my condemnation of people rioting - when it was kicking off in Bristol over the BLM stuff, and it was people on the left attacking the police, I was very relaxed on here about the police giving it plenty back.

As for the suggestion that I'm more upset about "some slight damage to a wall" than children being murdered, well, I work on the assumption that it goes without saying that people are horrified that some evil cu nt has gone into a room and butchered a group of children. I have a son the same age as one of the victims, and I cannot imagine what those families are going through. I didn't realize I needed to spell that out.

"No I don't consider a second generation immigrant from Rwanda who kills children to be "Welsh"."

- So, by that logic, Saka isn't English, and Irishman Stephen Yaxley-Lennon probably isn't the right figurehead for the English Defence League, because their parents weren't born in England? Your position is that no-one born in Britain to immigrant parents is British?

"It's blatantly obvious the BBC would do that, you honestly believe in this day and age there are zero photos of someone from the last 10 years FFS."

- Well, that well-known liberal newspaper, the Daily Mail, have used the same photos, which suggests that these may very well be the only images anyone's been able to find online? Still, you continue with your fantasy about the BBC searching out photos designed to soften his image if it fits your narrative.

Anyhow, that's me done on this thread.

It's a sad day when you can't attack a mosque or the police without being condemned by the Prime Minister.

Edit: The cun t was born and bred in Britain, and has Rwandan parents, so I'm not sure he's a "Rwandan bloke" anymore than Bukayo Saka is a "Nigerian bloke" or Stephen Yaxley-Lennon is an "Irish bloke". If he is a Muslim, there's still zero sense in attacking a mosque, but is he even a Muslim? And I'm sure all the good patriots looting the corner shop of its booze only did so because of concern about a breakdown of law and order in the country.

As for your ridiculous comment about the BBC trying to find a picture that would generate some sympathy for him, do you genuinely fu cking believe for a second that a BBC employee is trawling through his family photo albums searching for a cute photo of a bloke who has just murdered children, because they don't want people to think badly of him? Really? Maybe there aren't many pictures available of him online? I doubt his family are bombarding the BBC with up to date photos.

Couldn't agree more. It would be nice if people resisted the urge to speculate/stir up trouble before we have any idea of people's motives.

I know you know it is, you old devil. I just think calling a bloke by a stage name is a bit weird, when they're not a singer or an actor or something. But if his followers want to call him 'Tommy' rather than 'Steve' then that's up to them.

I'm not on twitter, but can anyone confirm whether Nigel Farage has shared his thoughts on the rioting in Southport last night, with a violent mob travelling in from outside the local area to attack the emergency services and a place of worship? It's a shame Stephen Yaxley-Lennon is on the run, because after sharing his thoughts on the trouble in Harehills the other week, I have no doubt he would have been up there expressing his horror at the mindless violence and attacks on the police from er, people reported to be chanting his name (probably undercover MI5 officers or something, eh).

I was going to do that, but then thought I'd get my wine broker, Johann, to post something on the subject. I think he provided an excellent overview of orange wine, but do let us know if you have any questions. And please remember, you don't have to spend a fortune on wine to get something very drinkable; there are some very nice bottles available around the £200-225 mark these days.

I always quite enjoyed Peppa Pig - there are a few funny characters in it, and you can't go wrong with Brian Blessed. Mr Bull digging up the road - gets quoted every time we encounter traffic/road works. Good times.

We had about 6 weeks of Paw Patrol in our house - that is a genuinely grim watch. Doesn't even look good or teach the kids any valuable lessons. No redeeming features at all.
