That Nahki Wells transfer looking like an astute bit of business...

Points deduction inbound?

Rangers really did get their act together at the perfect time.

You can always tell, when clubs are doing deals like that Wells one this is the only direction of travel unless they get promoted. Transfer fee when he was out of contract in 6 months, three and a half year contract that QPR couldn't get near, zero sell on value so all dead money, north of 30. Wages 212% of income.

Although that won’t be the figure used for FFP will it? Average of previous 2 seasons I think.

Losses for last three seasons are: ÂŁ38.4, ÂŁ10.07 and ÂŁ10.95.

A bit more than ÂŁ39m over 3 years?

I think one of those years was actually a ten million profit. So they’re right on the line for FFP.

That’s correct but that season drops off next year and apparently they will make a huge loss next time which will put them over.

What’s becoming clear is £13m allowed losses per year is not enough.

Basically, if you aren’t allowed wage caps then you can’t have FFP. When will the authorities get this into their thick heads?

So pleased the club held their nerve from 2016 - 2020 and didn't go in for silly deals when it came to signing players whilst also realising what the true value of their existing players was.
I think of the stink on here when we sold Freeman, Smithies, Luongo who all went for what we perceived as low money, but truth was we got what they were worth and more! We also didn't break the bank with contracts for Hall, Onouha, Robinson and let them move on... none have particularily set the world alight since.
Only player we perhaps could've achieved more for was Furlong

Master Sheen and I were wondering on Monday night what had happened to Idrissa Sylla, the accidental goalscorer, since he left us. Eight goals in three seasons, including two in a year in India. This season, just made it off the bench twice, for a total of 19 minutes and no goals, for Farense in the Portuguese second division.

Without punitive measures against individuals, what have these people got to lose by putting clubs in debt? Serious question. What are the ramifications for putting a club in administration?

Furlong, without doubt, the one we should have kept. Would have made a huge difference to what has been a massive problem area for us this season. We will not find another like him for 1 million.

Think its debateable.

He's more of an old fashioned right back than either a wing back or the one on the right of a 3.

Would still like him to have stayed though to see if he could have preformed one of those roles.

Money grabbing organisations like St Johns Ambulance get shafted. Which is bad publicity. Not that they give a damn

I know, it’s bang out of order for a “voluntary” organisation to suggest they’re “owed” money!
The mind boggles that they can do this when poor old poverty stricken football clubs could go to the wall.

If thats the case, then ÂŁ38.4m smacks of some very "creative accounting" or "massaging the figures" so it falls perfectly into a ÂŁ39m loss over 3 years.

I doubt proper planning and sustainable management had anything to do with it.

Well done QPR for cutting their cloth early enough, albeit after a massive court case, fine etc

Wage caps seeks parity in limiting salary costs for all clubs in the league.
FFP allows clubs to spend in line with their resources which may be different for each club.
It could be argued that wage caps are anti-competitive whereas FFP is not as long as the rules are adhered to of course.

No idea what SteveC has said, but wage caps punish the workers not the owners.

Presuming they are legal, enforceable, and fairly distributed, they still wouldn’t end assert stripping, debt stacking, or making a club bankrupt in any way.

Not saying huge wages aren’t a problem because they are. I read a recommendation once on a parliamentary paper stating that 40% of wages to net income was a reasonable and sustainable figure. Why not start there?

The Bazza solution is enforce FFP properly, declare all sports clubs CICs, then create a law making bankruptcy of a CIC (in this case a football club) by wilful means, or incompetence a custodial sentence. This covers all bases, is pretty loophole proof, and takes the burden off the EFL and puts it toe CPS instead. The CPS have no conflict of interest or commercial considerations to enforcing FFP like the EFL/FA/PL do.

This would deter the wronguns and focus the well meaning, and to SteveC’s delight would naturally result in players getting paid less.

Depends on how much financial risk the shareholders have taken - there’s no fixed scenario and each situation will have different outcomes for ‘misguided investors’ / ‘asset strippers’.

I’d suggest anyone investing in a football club to make a profit is misguided or an asset stripper!

Genuine question… did Bernie and Flávio make a profit?

…controversial, but they left the club in a better financial and league position than they found it… it was the new guard that messed things up.

Old argument, but they left at the worst possible time.We were starting from a weaker position that the play off winners Swansea. They left it so late to sell to Fernandes that all the targets that Warnock would’ve planned for had already gone to other clubs, because of the uncertainties surrounding the take over.
The only ones left were the ones that nobody else wanted.
It’s a bit like starting your Christmas shopping at 5pm on Christmas Eve and hoping you can get what you want, but all the good presents have gone. But you’ve got a full wallet to buy something to keep everyone happy.
