Charlie Austin making friends... 14:16 - Jul 28 with 9923 views | 80s_Boy | https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/manchester- Not sure any of our players should be allowed to give non-QPR interviews like this - especially to gutter media like Talksport - and also think it's disrespectful... (some could say ironic too considering the United player has played exactly the same amount of top flight matches as Austin despite being 9 years younger... ) Thoughts?

Didn't know he co-hosts to be honest. Not sure that should be allowed either though... [Post edited 28 Jul 2021 14:31]

Charlie Austin making friends... on 14:31 - Jul 28 with 5626 views | rsonist | Deeply unprofessional, could potentially impact the club eventually for continuing to look the other way, even arguably could say makes a hypocrite of MW for his Kane stance. However we knew this would be the rough to the smooth in signing him, and we're getting much more of the latter so far. Maybe I'm being a bit humourless here and the football world will just shrug it off as Charlie Work, but we all know what we'd be saying if it was Barton...
Charlie Austin making friends... on 14:34 - Jul 28 with 5588 views | rsonist | Also there's been a degree of separation to his takes so far - England should do this, Southampton was like this, etc. Going on the radio to state that a player he just faced four days ago isn't good enough is crossing a new line altogether.

Realistically he's possibly in the last 2-3 years of his playing career and can surely wait to carve out his controversial pundit/observer career until then?
Charlie Austin making friends... on 14:41 - Jul 28 with 5558 views | wood_hoop | Just what you would expect from a Talk Sport pundit, there to generate as many calls as possible, saying that all Man ure players were first class wouldn't get many calls from Surrey, say the opposite and even the far east 'fans' would be choking on their noodles. I don't think that Solskjær will be offering him a job just yet !

Personally I think AWB is decent enough and Man U have other areas that require more urgent attention but would Trippier be a good signing, I reckon he would | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Charlie Austin making friends... on 14:59 - Jul 28 with 5416 views | derbyhoop | Neither appropriate nor wise, but what do you expect from Talksport? I think Warbs would use the line " I won't comment on players at other clubs" and maybe Charlie should do the same.

That's my take as well. It's a matter of professionalism for me.

But if was Kane... Not aimed just at you Metallica. I feel we all (and maybe Warburton too) have double standards depending on the player's popularity/replaceability in the team

Maybe I'm missing your point, but there's surly a difference with Kane publicly dissing one of his team mates, and Austin expressing an opinion on a player at another club?

No answering on Rsonist's behalf, but my point is similar. Whether you are putting down a team mate or an opponent publicly, it smacks of disrespect - and we all know how big WB is on respect
Charlie Austin making friends... on 15:46 - Jul 28 with 5161 views | denhamhoop2 | It is kind of his job for Talksport and obviously Gareth Southgate agrees with his opinion personally wouldn't agree with his opinion of Wan Bissaker as a defender think he is United's best pure defender going forward another story altogether.

Think we'll have to agree to disagree on this Myke. It might be a little different if you were talking about an opponent at another club in our division, then you're potentially giving a motivational talk to him and his colleagues that might come back to bite us. Austin goaded Brentford after their last Play Off bottling, and I seem to remember Austin, Barbet AND Warbs giving it some to Brentford in the game at our place last season. But to me this is no different to saying that Ronaldo or Messi aren't the players they were. It's an opinion on what's going on in a world that doesn't affect QPR or Austin. Perhaps I'm just a little too ancient to be overly sensitive about this kind of thing. Stan Bowles was, is and always will be a hero of mine, and I remember him goading Malcolm MacDonald about his inability to trap a medicine ball. It won't affect how I think of him in the slightest.

he was asked a question and to give an opinion. He responded accordingly. Perhaps not an intellectual heavyweight (like Joey "punchyc unt" Barton believes thinks he is) but he is well qualified to offer a view, probably more so than any of us, on relative merits of a player over another. His view that AWB isn't yet good enough for what Man Utd need in his position are reasonable enough if judged on the basis of what we saw in the friendly. He didnt say he was a bad player, just not necessarily good enough for what they might want now. Add to that its a Man Utd player and frankly dont give a toss. This the Charlie Austin who as a kid wanted John Terry's autograph, but as a QPR player destroyed him on the pitch. So his opinion may change on AWB in future as well.

Charlie Austin making friends... on 16:11 - Jul 28 with 4986 views | ThGrimRanger | I think Charlie went too far and hasn't done and himself any favours if he's keen on a media career. If he said "in my opinion Man.U have a weakness at right back" then that's a much better way of putting it. To name and judge a top class young player like AWB based upon a pre-season friendly like he has is unnecessary.

"but he is well qualified to offer a view, probably more so than any of us, on relative merits of a player over another" We're all entitled to opinions, of course, but putting the possible lack of professionalism aside, is there not a case of irony with Charlie Austin and his one great season in the Premier League mocking a kid 9 years younger who's already played the same amount of games in the top flight?

I can't imagine some have ever heard Warbs speak if they think his definition of respect extends only the door of the dressing room.
