Match thread: Gillingham home on 17:45 - Sep 15 by D_Alien | Re: the pre-match deliberations... we delivered Everyone looked 100% comfortable with their role, and as 442 has rightly pointed out (and why would anyone criticise him for doing so?) Hendo showed today why he's been played out for position for far too long I too was impressed with Hart. Looks composed and has a mean left foot for crosses, i think he'll get better still with more game time The Camps/Rathbone combo shone but i won't have it that Gills were poor - they're a tough L1 outfit and had a couple of chances but we were simply better. The McGahey/Delaney combo had their work cut out but came through manfully I hope Hilly's a happy man tonight; the fans will be and with so many youngsters coming through it's starting to look very promising Really looking forward to the trip next week now |
Hmm, I thought as soon as we went 2-0 up, Gillingham made little effort to get back into the game. For me, their performance was the same as the other two they have produced at Spotland in the last 18 months.

Gillingham had the possession but we're too reliant on Eaves. Two goals from us by being direct and opportunistic on the break and as already said Gillingham gave up. I'd be pretty annoyed with that second half of I was a gills fan.

I Agree what everyone as said about today .but when you look at results today ,when Barnsley destroyed us ,and then we played Walsall ,who I thought was nothing special.we beat coventry ,who today beat Barnsley and we beat Burton who today beat Sunderland .I think that anything can happen in league 1 .Anyway I am happy tonight and go and have a few beers with Dale23 years .

There was no lack of effort from Gills, to suggest otherwise is to do Dale a disservice for a fine performance What they may have lacked, at least until they replaced one of their front two with a more skilful ballplayer out wide, was finesse That didn't make them 'poor' at any stage

Oh yes, our performance was excellent, there's no doubting that. But I still think Gillingham were poor from the point we went 2-0 up, regardless of whether that was down to us or them. It's all opinions, of course, although their manager seems to think they only had "4 or 5 performing". https://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/news/2018/september/lovell-rochdale/

Match thread: Gillingham home on 20:01 - Sep 15 with 3131 views | dingdangblue | Although Hill has admitted he doesn't like playing this way he may have stumbled upon a master stroke with Andrew and Wilbraham wide and competing with the fullbacks in the air. They won almost every ball today and with Hendo/Gillam/Clough (in time) picking up the knockdowns we are going to be a real threat. Both Raff and Hart got forward today just as much as if we'd been playing 3 at the back with wingbacks so having an extra attacking player on the pitch instead of an extra defender worked a treat.

We were indeed excellent and that counts. We’ve chucked away points against poor opposition in the recent past, so we still had to do our job and do it we did.

One has to take the views of the defeated manager with a pinch of salt Their inability to claw it back once we'd established our early lead can be attributed to his surprise at our tactics, so naturally he'll be looking for excuses in terms of his players I thought overall, it was a pretty open game, and enjoyable for that reason in addition to the result. Gills had their chances to respond but simply failed to find the net There's not much more to be said really

Wasn't at the game today but whatever we tried definitely seemed to work. Henderson is unbelievable at 33, 34 this season and the younger guys could definitely learn a thing or 2 off him. His importance to this team cannot be understated.

Funny it didn’t sound like that, he just came out and said how many players were injured and mentioned others’ form in training. It’s on the excellent YouTube video interview (the introduction of these longer interviews after games this season is a great addition btw) The original point was aimed at the inconsistency around such information, leaving everyone to wonder and not appreciate the situation as well ( see the follow up post about 5-10 mins after). We do now and can see how the manager had to come up with an alternative selection to make the most of our shift in tactics. Because of that, his stock rises even further after such a good win. Match thread: Gillingham home on 21:51 - Sep 15 with 2566 views | kel | First game of the season for this particular “part timer” today. Thought Henderson (obv), McGahey and Hart were by far the best players on show against a very poor Gills side. Not the best game ever but what needed to be done for the result was done well. I’ll leave the resident Hill bumboy to defend his after match attitude as it would appear that if he apppears at a house warming party years back then it makes him immune from criticism.
Match thread: Gillingham home on 22:03 - Sep 15 with 2509 views | pnc4eva1 | Today's performance has been coming for a while. The team played well against Peterborough and woke up with fifteen minutes to play against Walsall. Just before kick off people were trying to work out what the formation was. Andrew and Wilbraham on the wings seemed bizarre. It proved to be a master stroke. Big men out wide pulled the centre half's of Gillingham out of position giving Henderson more room to cause havoc. Defensively we were far more secure. Hart appears to have solved the left back problem. Delaney and mcgahey coped with Eaves and his elbows and Raff was helped out for cover by Andrew. The referee made bizarre decisions at times and Gillingham looked dangerous until the final third.

I did wonder what was going on with 4 strikers named, but what a performance, Henderson obviously will get all the plaudits especially with that 3rd goal but my man of match was Sam Hart absolutely brilliant both going forward and defending something matty done has been lacking
Match thread: Gillingham home on 22:49 - Sep 15 with 2325 views | DaleiLama | Harsh to call Gills poor but they didn't press us anywhere near as much as other teams which helped us to look very good. Great to get a comfortable win and should do the confidence a power of good before the SOL visit. Lots of excellent performances today. Best I've seen us play so far this year.

During the game Dale we were the dominant side. Gillingham had two attempts on target compared to Dale's eight on target. From the highlights it looks like Dale were on the back foot for long periods

Match thread: Gillingham home on 23:43 - Sep 15 with 2183 views | Sandyman | Great result, enjoyable attacking performance against a Gills team that had a very bad day at the office. The only performance less consistent than theirs was by the ref who had a stinker. He needs a word more than anyone at Gillingham does. Some of his inconsistencies suggested he wasn't well, mentally. Sad to hear KH belittling the manner of the win in his interview post-match. We won and won well. That, I applaud. UP THE DALE
