McClaren Agreed Terms? 15:02 - May 9 with 51559 views | Maggsinho | Appreciate there's already a McClaren thread but, well, you know... Anyway, according to Laurie Whitwell, Midlands football correspondent of the Mail, McClaren has agreed terms with the club.

McClaren Agreed Terms? on 19:13 - May 9 by QPR_John | Then why bring up the subject his appointment could reverse our good work in putting QPR people into QPR jobs. There are very few managers out there that are QPR people |
There is a big difference between saying 'all appointments must be QPR people' and saying 'QPR have done good work appointing QPR people'.

No, but this isn't a forced risk (as far as I know).

Of course QPR have done good work appointing QPR people I don't disagree and that is a bonus but you were not simply saying that. "Risky as fck in my opinion, and could reverse our good work in putting QPR people into QPR jobs. " It is the conjunction that I was referring to

Unless someone quits none of them are. Every sacking/appointment is a lottery. The only controllable variable is when it happens.
McClaren Agreed Terms? on 19:44 - May 9 with 3913 views | rsonist | Would it not have been far worse if TF showered him with praise knowing the discussions were taking place? IIRC all he said was that his (and implicitly everyone's role) is under review - as it should be really. As Norf said on the other thread it's a positive sign that upper management are thinking hard about changing direction at all (sorry to paraphrase unflatteringly if so). I don't think it could be called a kneejerk, reactive move at all - how many times over the years have we bemoaned having to rip it up and start again every time a new manager has to come in having had everything revolve around one person. This will be the first time we've really seen a management structure at the club attempting to improve itself proactively. The leak is a bad look for sure - but it does appear to be an "actual" leak and not whispers to the press with the intent to soften the ground and undermine. As far as Ollie's personal situation goes - I feel for him deeply, as I'm sure everyone connected to the club does, but it's just not relevant to this. What I do find a little curious - and a little concerning - is the talk of McLaren making such a lasting good impression during his first stint. Anyone with football experience having an input into this move wasn't there at the time - only TF and Ruben. As I said on the other thread I think this move does have logic to it but it feels a big, big gamble. I'd like to think people will remember how fine the margins of this decision are now when they retrospectively blame (or praise...) everyone in a year's time with 20/20 hindsight.
McClaren Agreed Terms? on 19:48 - May 9 with 3885 views | rsonist | Carsley has a very good reputation by the way. I don't believe he and McLaren have worked together coaching before so that's potentially a very positive variable.

McClaren Agreed Terms? on 20:13 - May 9 with 3711 views | MedwayR | This doesn't look good on the club and I don't think it's fair on Holloway either as I believe he's done as well as could have realistically been expected. I also worry that it could lead to Penrice leaving too which, given his reputation, would be a significant loss. However, I can see that the club are in a position where they either back Holloway and extend his contract or they replace him, to let his contract run would undermine his position. As already said this is also the time to stick or twist, not in November. I can also see the logic in McLaren although I'm not convinced it's the right appointment. When we appointed Ramsey as manager it was, in my opinion, with the intention of maximising the club's ability to develop players and I believe this appointment would be with a similar motive although with some expectation to challenge top half/play-offs too. To have highly-rated coaches like Ramsey and McLaren at a club of our size and in the Championship too would be quite a coup and would help us to attract young players. On the other hand have we suddenly got spare cash to be firing managers & coaching staff and paying up their contracts. I just hope the club get an appointment right for a change.

McClaren Agreed Terms? on 18:51 - May 9 by BazzaInTheLoft | There are some managers that I couldn't blame QPR for pursuing, but McClaren isn't one of them. Risky as fck in my opinion, and could reverse our good work in putting QPR people into QPR jobs. If Holloway wants out then fair enough, but if he's being forced out for McClaren then fck the board. As Hunter says, wait and see. [Post edited 9 May 2018 18:52]

Agree mate... I think Ollies last interview indicated he didn’t want to go anywhere. If he’s been pushed then it stinks IMHO... despite the inconsistency of the performances I’ve felt Ollie has done so much good and steered the club in the right direction.

I've wondered about Penrice's position too but there seems an interesting contradiction there. Obviously everyone know they're best mates from childhood. But this decision is entirely about getting the best out of the recommendations that Penrice and his department has and will make. He is also scout specialising in the European market, who's already been frustrated before at Stoke when Pulis ignored his very wise picks to sign average Brits instead. Foreign players are an area where Ollie has clearly struggled - and McLaren excelled...

Im guessing McLaren will have his own network of scouts he'd like to use. People that he knows and trusts. [Post edited 9 May 2018 20:31]

I'm fairly certain that Mel Johnson is our european scout rather than Penrice.

Exactly! Can’t speak as a shareholder or as a employee of QPR, but as I fan I’ve had a really enjoyable season. Some tidy results against sides that we were written off against, the resurgence of players like Scowen Smyth and Luongo, and home made and young players FINALLY pulling on the shirt, and the club finally giving a shit about the community and the 70 poor sods who died on their doorstep. Although I have zero facts to back this statement up; this potential deal stinks and isn’t in keeping with the New QPR way. I don’t want us to relapse back into a supermarket sweep appointment strategy again. [Post edited 9 May 2018 20:40]

That would contradict their careers up to now pretty heavily... Mel's son Jamie was European scout at Brighton if I recall correctly. (He's now at Rotherham).

Don't often agree with Dave McIntyre but he sums up my feelings about IH pretty well.. "Maybe. But you'll never have stability with such a volatile manager, changing his mind every five minutes, likes players then doesn't, slagging all and sundry off, whipping up opposition fans and more. Club has young players who need steady guidance." [Post edited 10 May 2018 5:55]
