Company car question on 06:26 - Mar 27 with 739 views | Phil_S | In short I think it would do. The taxable benefit on the Merecedes will be about £6k so therefore it will affect your tax banding by around £500 per month This of course isn't the amount of tax you will pay by having the car which on £6k @ 20% would be around £100 per month | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Company car question on 23:01 - Mar 27 with 557 views | bankjack | Tax codes & the actual amount you pay will be very different. I looked at the new A class Mercedes a few months ago - tax cost each month was quoted as £99per month, & that's as a 40% taxpayer. If you earn less than approx. £41k you'll pay 20% tax on it i.e £50per month. All the major car dealer websites will give a "benefit in kind" % rate. Take the list price of the car and take the % rate. Eg 20% benefit in kind rate of a list price of £20,000 is £4000. The £4000 attracts tax at either 20% or 40% rate depending on your salary. which would mean a £800 per year cost or £1600 per year cost taken from your salary as part of your income tax by lowering your tax code. I've had C class & an AudiA4 in the past & they both cost about £150pm. So cheaper than leasing or insurance & running costs! Didn't go for the A class in the end, too small & poor driving experience, new golf hot hatch £110pm! (£55pm if 20% taxpayer) :) | | | |
