Saints Could Be Raiding Juventus In The Summer. Monday, 10th Mar 2014 09:27 The latest transfer rumour mill is saying that Saints could be about to head to Italy and snatch a striker from Juventus to replace Dani Osvaldo. It should firstly be stated that at this stage of the season most transfer rumours are started by either players agents trying to let it be known that their client is open to a move or the media who since the transfer window started a decade or so sometimes struggle to fill pages if they have had a weekend where no big star has been involved with something juicy. The latest out of Italy though is that Saints could be trying to get Italian International Fabio Quagliarella from Juventus. This is probably emanating from the fact that Osvaldo is on loan at Juventus and the 31 year old Quagliarella is now behind him in the pecking order, Juventus if they want to sign Osvaldo will possibly be looking to use Quagliarella as part payment. This season Quagliarella has been out of favour a little at Juve and the arrival of Osvaldo has pushed him further down the pecking order, the Italians will probably be looking for around £2 million for the player who has just turned 31 at the end of January, last season he was in form though and scored 13 goals in 34 appearances for his club including one when they beat Chelsea 3-0 in the Champions League. He has played for several of the top Italian clubs over the years signing for Juventus for £10 million in the summer of 2011 after spending part of the previous season on loan. he has played 25 times for his Italy scoring 6 goals and was a member of their last World Cup squad in 2010. Quagliarella does not seem to be a tall commanding central striker but more in the vein of Osvaldo with a reputation for being able to score from distance. How serious this rumour is wont be found out till the summer, certainly whether Juve are keen on Osvaldo will be a major factor, however Osvaldo is not getting into the side at the moment and in the League has only 4 appearances as sub to his name at present totalling 45 minutes football, however most of that came in the first two games and in the last two he has only come on in the 89th minute in both, he has though started both Europa Lague games and scored in both.
