I think that's what's so enjoyable about a crazy goal like this one is that it 'levels' football - you really could, and probably would, find it on the school playground any day of the week.
I was convinced the ball had crossed the line in the bicep/shoulder block initial phase (and that the defender was behind the line), but apparently not. Amazing the ref didn't give at least five penalties/free kicks in either direction! Can we imagine two more contrasting goals than Alfie's and Bannan's? Style, technique, and poise vs chaos, madness and scavengers' joy.

To sound a sourer note for the sake of devil's advocacy/critical balance, meanwhile, let's hope our manager and his team is working on his/our crap first halves, as he clearly wasn't doing that during the int. break! Hilarious that Bannan was tapping his head to his teammates after his goal, then they give away a stupid free kick, and he gives away the corner we end up scoring from. To be fair, his goal deserved to win any game, and they threw it away at the end. [Post edited 14 Sep 22:13]

I'm not as impatient as some may think, but Marti and his team need to start doing better sooner rather than later. For me, it's been slim pickings so far, though the comeback at Luton was creditable in a number of ways. That first half was inept and witless. |

Hans Christian Andersen's ghost would have been more effective than Lucas today! Field was fallow, and Madsen isn't even lightweight. Wednesday shot themselves in the foot with conceding a stupid late free kick and corner. Unjust, but Bannan gets to eat sh*t, despite our gormless tactics and performance! [Post edited 14 Sep 17:29]

3 draws and 5 1-0s/0-1s from today's run of results tells us what a tight/mediocre league this is. Come the end of the season, we'll likely be middling-to-average from what we've seen so far. |
