I think we should keep our back four intact and instead get quick ball to the wings from CM . The reason why our full backs end up next to our wingers half the time is that the move broke down and the wingers have nowhere to go and no one to pass to.
I think we missed a trick with Bellamy - thatās exactly what we want to see here - the ability to turn defence into attack quickly.
When we play so slowly it takes all the heat out of any attack - giving our fast wide players no chance of getting in behind and hurting the opposition.
Perhaps Luke has been conditioned into this blindly trying the same thing because the notebooks say it works when everyone else sees the total opposite.
This could be the making of him as a manager - tell them to keep a solid defensive shape but encourage the midfield to try the occasional over the top ball and risky pass - if they donāt come off defend, win the ball back and try again.
We have players that should be sitting far higher in the table he just needs to take the handcuffs off them. Maybe Grimes will force me to eat my words when the true version of himself starts dominating games.
Question is - will Luke be brave enough to try it? If we try it and lose but there are signs it will work he should. We are a patient fan base and if we can see light at the end of the tunnel we will support him.
Iām beginning to think Williams is as bad as Martin - incapable of picking the right players in the right roles due to blindness caused by his coaching by numbers āphilosophy ā.
This is why watching womenās football these days is far more enjoyable. They play far more off the cuff and attack at will with no little skill I might add. Itās almost like watching football in the 70ās and 80ās when such formulaic nonsense as we have today was unheard of.
For some people failure isnāt a bad thing. Especially when they know their contract will be paid up in full leaving them wealthier than you or I could ever be. Itās called the āMonk method of enrichmentā.
And this āIām not going to change my style or principlesā when he had neither to begin with. Just means he can jet off somewhere nice all the sooner. Ditto Monk.
Heās a premier league manager because Southampton bought the bull poo and took him on after failing here. He had ample opportunity to get us to the play offs but he preferred to make it all about him instead. Fraud? Oh most certainly.
We wouldnāt even be having this conversation if Leeds had shown up at the play off final. And Russell would be unemployed. The fact that he screwed the autos up with the squad he had, being beaten to second place by newly promoted Ipswich says it all.
Paid dividends for Swansea? By losing 17 out of 21 games and missing out on the playoffs as a result. Cooper did much better and his football, although more defensive still got us to 2 plays offs in succession.
Martin scraped promotion with a ridiculously strong Southampton squad which a better manager would have achieved automatic promotion with at the very least.
Itās quite obvious that our last three managers had no idea how to coach players individually and improve them. Or even devise a system that they could thrive in, instead moaning about how poorly funded they were , getting money then wasting it and wanting more. Managers like Burrows knew how to get the best of what little they had available.
Iāve not seen anything to suggest he is anything other than a robotic statistics driven administrator. One plan and one plan only, does he have any independent nous or instinct to actually pick a system that suits the players he already has and improve them , mould them into that system? I donāt think so.
Neither do I think he has the balls to make the biggest decision of all and thatās to give Matt Grimes a spell on the bench and Darling the Captaincy. It will never happen but until it does we are going to sink deeper and deeper into the mire. During the first half yesterday we didnāt even compete.
