Club Captain Jack Stephens
at 12:11 2 Aug 2024

Teams used to have one coach on the sideline. Now there is an army for every facet of the game.
I suggest a series of Captains depending on leadership skills in each area.
Maybe captains for training, a captain when they are on the team bus, a captain for leisure activities such as ping pong, a captain for the canteen at lunchtime etc.
during the match maybe all of them could have a period of the game when they will be captain. so then all of them get a moment to lead and be in charge.
Totally inclusive and progressive. Every player gets to feel valued and can only benefit their mental health.
Actually we should add a Captain of team mental health....

Manning in central midfield
at 09:33 1 Aug 2024

Very odd. I know it's pre season and results don't matter. These games are generally for fitness but surely there is little point playing players in positions that they are never going to play.
There can't be a cat in hells chance that Manning is going to play centre mid in the premier league so I wonder what the thinking was.

Serious Disorder in Southport
at 13:05 31 Jul 2024

I saw some plum on twitter demand a ban on knives.
Not sure how that would work!
There's a ban on guns, which is easier to do, but knives? You'd only need rudimentary metalwork skills and you could make anything you want anyway.

Charlie Austin Signs For AFC Totton
at 09:43 31 Jul 2024

He'll be the Calmore Ronaldo. He'll want to take all the free kicks and corners. Every pass will have to go to him and he won't run 3 yards to chase a ball.
No doubt he'll want to be the bar and catering manager too and probably want the chairmans parking space.

Top 3 worst record transfer signings by Saints

Livramento? I thought we paid about 5 for him and sold him for 30?
I also thought Sulemana is our record signing. Hes been terrible.

Don't stand near the away fans then cos you'll get called a lot worse.

In all honesty I was more offended when during Rupert Lowe's time, the stadium announcer was referring to "customers in the Northam stand".

Seems odd. He was at United for years and they paid him a ridiculous amount of money. $350K per week I believe. But he's been without a club for a year. Apparently his wage demands have put Genoa off.
I guess we could offer more than a Serie A team, but he has to be realistic if he still wants to play anywhere. Would be a good addition at the right price, but if he's going to be an idiot then definitely not. Maybe he has so much money he's not motivated to go and play.

I hope we're interested in David de Gea. He is still a free agent and surely he's better than what we have. He's been talking to Genoa so we should be in with a chance.
Oh and I'd still like Deli Alli, but appreciate, I seem to be the only one

Ross stewart

I get what you're saying nick but the fact remains he currently isn't fit enough to take part in regular pre season training. So he's on his own programme. Then he gets to the level where he can do pre season training, then a match.
So after all last season off, he is still weeks behind the others. I seriously doubt he'll be ready for the start of the season.
I don't really blame the club, it was a gamble and it backfired.
But so far his signing has been disastrous. We've paid him well no doubt, and got nothing back.
Are the club going to take another gamble and hope he gets fit or sign another striker.
We cannot afford to go to January without a striker.
On the positive side he could be fully fit in the next 6 weeks and we finally get to see if he's any good. Let's hope so.

It's mad.
What you are saying Nick , is that Stewart STILL isn't fit enough to take part in the very training that is used to get the players fit enough to play!

So once he gets to that level he will then need his own pre-season. He's goig to be weeks behind everyone else. What injury did he actually have ??

Southampton About To Rival Ipswich Town For Winger
at 12:16 26 Jul 2024

As seems to be the way, every player we are after seems to have the caveat "Ipswich are also interested".

As for Clarke he does look like a good signing for us. Last year he was at Sunderland who didn't have the best season and he scored 15 as a winger! That would be a pretty good return for a central striker. None of our wingers look to have 5 goals in them and I include our record signing Sulemana.

I'm firmly of the opinion that we won't survive without a decent striker.
That said there's 5 weeks left.
Every buying club wants their business done early. But every selling club knows that and knows its in their best interest to delay and drive up the price.
Saints can only buy when the seller says so.

Hojbjerg leaving Spurs for 17M.
at 12:30 22 Jul 2024

Our obsession with getting old players back continues I see.
Hojbjerg was ok for us. He's a very limited player. I remember seeing him many times for us when we were pushing up the pitch at speed and everything slowed down when the ball got to him. Very frustrating.
I guess that he might have suited Russ ball with his obsession with keeping possession and not making risky passes. OK I'm not a fan of RM's tactics but I'm hoping that we become a bit more adventurous this season. I honestly don't think we will have anywhere near as much ball as we had last year and we will be pressed much harder. What interests me is if Russ can adapt and find a way to pose a threat.
We need a real goal threat or the PL teams will soon know they can press us high and we are unlikely to hurt them. Right now, I don't believe we have strikers to do that.
anyway I digress from Hojbjerg, I don't think he'd add anything that we don't already have.

Athlectic Reporting Sulemana Considers Southampton Exit as Roma and Ajax Circle
at 11:28 18 Jul 2024

Recruitment is so hit and miss these days.
Carillo was what, 21 mill? Sulemana was 22 mill, Onuachu was 18?
Thick end of 60 mill just on those and we got very little return from any of them.

2024-2025 Strike force
at 15:09 17 Jul 2024

Not sure we could our faith in Broja. He wasn't prolific last time, he just had one little purple patch and then he couldn't get in the team. He went back to Chelsea and didn't get a game there. Chelsea will be happy to get him off their wage bill but I still don't think that means he will be good for us.

The logo somehow makes it look cheap.
Plus it doesn't look like a saints shirt. It looks generic. Could be Brentford, or Sheffield United...
But it's just an opinion. I don't buy them anyway.

Biden introduces Ukraine President as Putin

The US is incredible.
You have mental Trump making up policies and "truths" as he goes along. and he's been facing criminal charges.
You'd think the Democrats would only have to put up a reasonably competent candidate and they'd win by a mile. But no, they went for an even older guy who is not up to it and now Trump looks like he's the favourite again.
Makes our lot look positively professional !
