I thought he was excellent when moved to left wing back (against Cov, I think). Kept with their right winger, put some ferocious tackles in and made some fantastic runs up the left wing too.

I'm the same. No interest in history at school but about 20 years ago started on the 20th century and have dabbled since and am now dipping my toes into pre-history (thanks to a recommendation for 'The Dawn of Everything' on here by DM). Not sure I will be able to do too many more centuries before I pop my clogs but I do have a penchance for reading about how things happened.

In football: Gianluca Vialli (RIP). Thought he was a mindless, right wing thug when he played for Chelsea. Later found out he was an articulate and well spoken right wing nationalist.

In life: Cheese and Onion crisps. No semblance of savoury as a kid. Now indispensable as munchies.

He's been given 10 minutes at the end of 2 or 3 games which have already been lost and been played totally out of position. I think, on that basis, it's fair to say that it's too early to judge him.

Is this season written off already?
at 00:26 10 Nov 2024

Can't see us staying up. Even with the returning players. Said before, teams will absorb any pressure we put on them, knowing we are desperate for points and hit us on the break. It's already started happening at LR. Add in the gamesmanship and bias from refs because they know the odds are stacked against us (ask Wolves, Ipswich etc etc) and we are not going to get the wins home and away that are needed. Nourry has f*cked us.

I think the game's up, yes. For the reasons that you state and also because it's harder to beat teams these days (especially when they know you are desperate for points). Oppositions can easily work out your game-plan when you are scraping the barrel and can pick you off more easily. I think we will give it a go but am expecting a poor points return.

Try as hard as we can to stay up this season, get any new players in until the end of the season only and prepare the kids for League One.

He doesn't get it right every time. If I'm being honest, he needs to be a LOT more pragmatic (given where we are at the moment) and to shelve the playing it out from the back and to get us harrying higher up the pitch with 4 across the midfield and bodies (at least 2, attacking in the box). On the other hand I admire him for encouraging us to play it out from the back. Nardi looking to play football every time he has the ball is very refreshing to see, even if it is very unlikely to get us points on the board for the meantime.

In conclusion: yes, I would be sorry if Marti gets the boot

It's All Been Downhill Since Warburton Left
at 12:30 9 Nov 2024

I agree with the OP. I think there could have been a solution to the dip that we encountered under Warburton. I know it was a broken record at the time with the same players stuck in a rut to the tune of his 'We must look afte the ball better' but with only a bit more careful management in terms of getting Eustace to take the upper hand we would have continued our upward trajectory. Big mistake getting rid of those two towards the end of that season and pitting our hopes on PBBC.

Marti on Leeds
at 14:58 8 Nov 2024

Wouldn't surprise me if Marti walks away from it. What's in it for him ? He's been sold up the river, has no cards to play with and is being marched out in the firing line for his 'crimes'. Not sure what he has done to deserve it if I'm being honest.

Team for Saturday now…
at 21:05 7 Nov 2024

I would go 5-4-1. Madsen, Andersen, Morgan and Celar should not be in the starting XI for this one.

Nardi
Smyth (RWB)
Saito (LWB)
Dunne (LCB)
Cook (CB)
Morrison (RCB)
Varane (CDM)
Field (CDM)
Kolli (AM)
Bennie (AM)
Lloyd (CF)

Yep, he looks like a very good prospect and is very gutsy but I don't think he is ready to be starting for us and if we try it again agains Leeds the result will be similar. We need Sam back in there and Morrison or Dunne at centre back if nec.

Not too much he can say really. Performance wasn't good but he currently has 4 players who should not be starting IMHO. On Saturday he needs to get Sam back alongside Varane and to put Morrison alongside Cook.

How is he as a coach ? I know he is a model of a professional and has a very good rapport with the Development Squad players. I wonder if he could be an uncut managerial diamond for us.

No. He should have played Saito there from the start and put Smyth where Saito was if he had to. Saito would have stuck on and stayed with their right winger.

Morgan isn't ready. He's not on it yet. He shows some promise but he's one of the 4 or 5 that should not be starting really.

Saito was good. And Varane. That's it.

Madsen, Celar and Santos (and Morgan, I'm afraid) should not be in the team. They are not good enough. The fact that they are only playing because of injuries is not an excuse. They are not good enough and should not have been bought/playing in the team. Andersen is close to joining them.

Agree with para 1

Para 2 - yes, it can be a bit contrived when its 9 days before Remembrance Day but for me its important, the club organise it very well and it serves a good purpose

No disrespect but... Sunderland match threað
at 19:37 2 Nov 2024

Bad susbtitution as well when it came. Paul Smyth doing fine, getting down the line and getting one or two crosses in for ...... Lucas Andersen, two yards slower and unable to get further than the penalty area. Really poor substitution for that stage of the game. Should have been Lloyd, Bennie or Kolli, in that order.
