Very well put that man.

If Burton approached Dale and unlocked the right to speak to him, he would have been mental to pass up the opportunity, even 100% sure he didn't want to go there.

He came to Dale as a player and 'worked his way up'; speaking to Burton, gaining interview experience, a feel for how another club is, money, budgets, strategies etc. would be INVALUABLE for him in his professional/personal development and bank him some exp. in preparation for an interview he actually wants/needs to pass.

The muckrakers and gas lighters on here trying to sew division with "inside knowledge" and whataboutery are, to quote an old fav. "diluted"

Agreed wholeheartedly and that is exactly the point I was making David.

The club needs a stable united front both inside and outside to keep hold of Jimmy Mac; message bores trying to eek something from a member of staff leaving is contrary to that and decidedly unhelpful.

If nothing else, Lee deserves better than that...

Who are you to tell anyone what the club either does or doesn't need?

It's clear the club needs stability, and people trying to perpetuate rumours and suggestions is adding to the unease around the manager. If your inferiority complex can't overcome that, then that is your problem; but for the good of the club - don't bother.

Do you really think your initial contribution to this thread was helpful?

Either answer the question or stop trying to be all clever and suggestive. The club doesn't need rumours perpetuated by nothingness...

Working for anybody? Not for me - just a frozen pic of some cauliflower-eared boxer.

Great start to the new brand/format...

Agreed with the majority of that, what I want to really get across, in addition, is that in this day and age, managers are not given anything near the amount of time required.

Look at all the talk around the new Man U manager and "how long does he have to make an impact?" and he's not even in post yet!

Park the playing style momentarily and ask yourself if Jimmy has the fundamental attributes of a successful manager? I would say yes, and I reckon if the club support him in terms of coaching support/development program etc. then I think he is well worth the investment.

I think the club have identified that - hence the contract extension.

You're not wrong on the duffers - many a crème brûlée turned out to be a wet pancake...

Maybe you need to cut back on the seasoning, so you can be a bit less salty

I want him to succeed here primarily not somewhere else, and I want him to succeed at getting Rochdale as far up the football pyramid as possible.

Some might not like his style of football, but what can be said for him is that he is passionate, honest, and wants the best for Rochdale. He inspires his players and has a good moral compass in terms of developing good people as much as good players.

All of these things are in complete synergy with the new owner's vision of a sustainable club, leaving some comments about "he needs to learn and adapt his style" quite baffling.

Without him, we would have been wound up last season, and this season, his style and tactics have garnered us many more points than the "mistakes" have cost us.

Up the Dale and up Jimmy McNulty

Let's just get on top of this:

Said "former Trust Chairman" is an esteemed friend of mine of nigh on 30 years. He doesn't need me to stick up for him in any way, but such are his contributions to this football club over much of that time; him being a lynchpin in saving the club from the vultures; and my care for a friend necessitates my comment.

He might have been "pissed as a newt" but there is not a chance what you 'think' you saw is the truth, not a cat in hell's chance.

Whether my words carry any weight or not - I have no idea; still, based on Brierls' polite rebuttal from actually being there, I'd suggest you retract that part of your analysis as he does not deserve any besmirchment of his reputation based on a misunderstanding.
