I get the feeling Cortese didn't get his own way about not being able to spend other peoples money and threw his toys out of the pram and then proceeding to poison our manager and players to exit with him as he couldn't bear for the club to carry on successfully without him. Full of is own self importance. Poch grabbed the chance to turn players heads. It isn't just the media that wanted us to fail this summer.
One of the things SFC seemed to have done is "well you can set some rot in, but we will recover and the last thing we are going to do is let our ex-manager raid our players. We will sell to Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool,.. seriously watch,... but Tottenham can fook off."

Just an observation on my part.

Shaw's career in jeopardy?
at 23:14 14 Aug 2014

Thanks for the money Man United and like Roy Keane said "players are just expensive pieces of meat".

Shaw is owned by the Man Utd business now.

Enjoy the cortisone injections and getting rushed back before you are ready.

Enjoy the money.

Schadenfreude peut etre? *shrug*

It maybe one step backwards before two steps forwards but I genuinely believe three things.

1. We got a manager that can turn a negative into a positive (regarding losing some saints stars) by having an opportunity to build a team that is HIS team. We hit a ceiling last season and that's why they jumped ship for money.

2. Getting in players that are hungry to prove themselves. Vitalise and refresh.

3. As I have said before on previous posts Poch had no Plan B tactically and that showed in the second half of the season when ppl sussed us out.
We are not Barcelona where our Plan A works most of the time. Even Barcelona are starting to come unstuck tactically.

Footnote: it's not just the summer transfer window that is going to be the transition, it will take time to gel and 50% of players from abroad with no PL exp don't adjust but I think we will survive and build. At least three of them will be gems.

The unstoppable force that is Saints and against all odds and media will continue.

We are chipping away at the staus quo.

Keep the faith.

If that's what's foremost on his mind when reading a post about football then I think he's the one that needs to make a confession and get it out of his system. Maybe he will feel better after he's told his parents and can live the life that makes him happy ;oP

Without hope there is no point in supporting a team.

I'm not predicting that we will definitely be rubbing with the big clubs but the potential is there.

I'm not getting carried away, it's going to be difficult, and signing many players with no PL experience usually gives a 50/50 return of success on each player.

but Frank Sh*te I'd rather " keep the faith" in my outlook than drown people in negativity.

The fact that we can still attract players with the much promoted exodus and meltdown by the British Media speaks for itself. Those in the footballing world know what a great opportunity coming to Southampton is.

And there will come a point that top teams won't be pinching our players as much (they still will obviously) because it will get to the point that their squads are full. How many Saints players can they make room for in their squads.

It was different before because we would produce a star every two or three seasons and as with Bale and the Ox, when we were in lower leagues, but now it's like a conveyor belt. At least two come to good each season.

And let's hope we got good sell-on clauses as well :o)

Having a great academy not only saves you having to spend big money on good players but also gives us premium returns when we do sell that can be reinvested.

I'm quietly confident in two years time there's a chance we can be rubbing with the big boys.

p.s.

when you got soldiers at the front of supermarkets with buckets for "Help for Heroes" basically begging then there is something seriously wrong with this government and the people that run this country.

Strip a man of his humanity then his dignity is wrong, wrong, wrong.

And the horror never stops. Even since WWII no world peace has been accomplished.

Watch the news.

Watch the political manoeuvering.

Listen the to lies in name of freedom and democracy.

The fight for resources.

Soldiers will continue to be sent to their deaths, not for representing their country, but representing the job that needs to be done by the b*stards that run their country for political and quite frankly sick, unjust and illegal means.

I have friends in the army and left the army and they are fed up with it.

On the news you may hear about the numbers of deaths and casualties but you don't hear about all those, and there are many, that come home mutilated, limbs and sides missing, going through physical rehab with little and inadequate support both physically and financially from the government.

So let's not just remember those that died but also those that survived.

and brace yourselves.

If you think World Wars are just a history lesson.... WWI was known as The Great War... was awful, could never happen again!.. WWII to bring world peace... never again!... there has been no world peace since WWII and they are going headlong into WWIII willingly to distract from the utter and complete failure of the system.

I tell you who I feel sorry for

Agree. The only clubs FFP looks after is the BIG clubs.

It is about the elite protecting their established interests and investments.

The purpose stated by the introduction of FFP is to stop clubs spending more than their income to stop clubs getting into financial difficulty and going out of business.

This is a big fat lie.

The purpose is to stop investors making small and medium clubs bigger and threaten the staus quo of the big clubs.

It will be promoted, and it sells to the ignorant , that no club should spend more than they receive. Add the word "Fair" and the illusion is complete.

What is actually happening BIG CLUBS have monumentally more income through branding and multi million sponsorship deals for shirts e.t.c. so the FFP RESTRICTS THEM LESS, Theyy would have to spend extortinate amounts of money for their spending to exceed their revenue.

Building clubs on the other hand cannot compete because they are not allowed to commit with the major investment necessary.

I will repeat I do not agree with stupidly run clubs but I don't think Saints have given up. They will draw in so much money from sales that FFP can't nail them, spot and buy players wisely for a fraction of the price, use their academy to provide future income and players. It may take time but if we can stay up the momentum of our philosophy will exceed any disappointments this summer and may change how clubs approach football for good.

The F.A. approved the PL breakaway on the basis they were sold it would be good for English Football and the national team, (Not that they had much choice)

FFP is being sold on the same BS.

I really dislike the PL
at 21:33 28 Jul 2014

Agree. I think the F.A. Cup capitulation playing not our strongest team was done on purpose by Poch. If we qualified for Europe in our second season back in the PL after back to back promotions any talk of lack of ambition would have looked ridiculous.

The truth is they had decided on their futures (Managers and players) for bigger money and were already considering their P.R. exit.

Period.

I think it's good we got rid of the players that don't care about the club ( Idon't put Rickie in that bracket, he served us well and never made empty promises of intention. He's always showed class and integrity.) and RK can rebuild a team of his making afresh. I just hope we get the players in soon as their is little time left to gel before kick off.

We are still in the PL and due to our academy there cannot be a problem with financial stability, many clubs must envy our sales but on the other hand I don't go to matches to watch a bank balance.

I want to believe again.

Ambition? How many clubs in recent years have progressed as far and as fast as we have?
How much more could we have done?
How many clubs have given young players a chance to play in the premier league on a regular basis and get considered for England?
The problem doesn't lie with club, the problem lies with the players and the ppl that advise them.
There is not a lot any club can do to keep a player that wants to leave, maybe put it off a year.

Ronaldo : Man Utd to Real Madrid
Gareth Bale : Tottenham to Real Madrid
Suarez : Liverpool to Barcelona

The big clubs have got the power to persuade "one more season"

What I like about our mentality is we are not getting bullied to sell on the cheap because we have a stable financial set up and don't have to do like we did with Bale and sell cheap because were desperate just to keep the club afloat and let clubs take advantage of that.

e.g. Ferdinand cost more than Shaw a decade ago. Good defenders are hard to come by. If anything Shaw is a bargain for Man U if he does well but personally I think Shaw has got a big hurdle to jump mentally otherwise he will go down the same route as Wayne Bridge. A good case for him staying for one more year for his own good not ours.
