Matty Done....deal done? on 18:25 - Jul 8 by 442Dale | Why not? Nobody has played that advanced midfield role just off the main striker as well as Done did during that great run we had in League 1. He was unplayable at times. |
He won't reply. | | | |

Matty Done....deal done? on 18:45 - Jul 8 with 1710 views | 442Dale | In a world without Grant, having Henderson, Done and Vincenti rotating roles behind the main striker illustrates we won't miss him so much. Pressure on Donnelly and Bunney as centre forwards though, would still like another addition if/when Grant goes.

Good to see Hilly making a point of thanking the chairman and the rest of the board for the backing he's received. I'm sure the chairman and board are just as thankful for having a manager who knows and respects the budget he's working with!

And Hogan - who I believe will see a lot of football this season.

Not a direct reply to yourself but - where do we see Gray playing? If grant wasn't to leave could he play a role alone up top or would his heads gone moments be too much to risk? Henderson more centrally now too - not 100% sure of where he has played most of his career There's a good depth in midfield though, wingers which we seemed to be so lacking.

Seeing as it's likely to be a 4-2-3-1 for the majority of the season, if Gray starts in this formation, I expect him to be in the role just behind the striker. However, I think the majority of Gray's appearances will come off the bench if and when we revert to 4-4-2.

Lot of players who play similar roles, as it was when we had Rundle, Thompson, Buckley, Higginbotham, Adams in 08-09, then added Atkinson, Haworth and Obadeyi to the mix the year after. Midfield has four players going for two slots (if one of the previously named takes the advanced role) - Tutte, Cavanagh, Hery and Lund provides good depth, even if we've yet to see two of them play.

We've got plenty of options for the positions behind the centre forward, whether they be wide or central. Grant, Henderson, Vincenti, Done, Hogan, Gray, Abadaki & Logan can all play there. If/when Grant goes I'd like to see another centre forward come in to take the load off Donnelly & Bunney.

I keep forgetting about Hery. We might have a lot of young players this year but the options this is creating is "wow wow wow" And I agree with Briels also we need something else up top an experienced head on loan would be acceptable. Im sure its all in hand. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Matty Done....deal done? on 19:07 - Jul 8 with 1511 views | YouTubeDale | Whoever plays up front is sure to receive impeccable service especially as Hill insists on playing the ball on the ground. Gray could be in double figures this season. Foreplay galore.

Matty Done....deal done? on 19:16 - Jul 8 with 1485 views | olympicdale | It is great to see Hilly saying how much he appreciates the boards backing with all his targets, it sounds to me he may have got the majority of his first choices, Hendo, Eastham, Rose, Vincenti and now Done This squad is looking like a Hill team of old, plenty of creativity and flexibility. I am finding myself really looking forward to this season already! UTD! [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Matty Done....deal done? on 19:26 - Jul 8 with 1453 views | ColDale | its only been a few months since we were getting all excited at the prospect of him making a big money move to Palace as Zaha's replacement and the sell on that we'd receive.
Matty Done....deal done? on 19:31 - Jul 8 with 1439 views | SimpkinsLeftPeg | There's a lot of talk about bringing in a striker to help with the numbers that can play the role up top. However, the more I think about it, the more I'm starting to think Hilly isn't interested. For the time being anyway. It's clear Donnelly is his main man for that role, and to support him we have Bunney and Gray, but also Hogan and Godwin who can play up there if needed. I'm excluding Grant here too, and it's more than possible he could stay. If those options aren't providing the goals we need (and we have lost a lot of goals, especially if Bobby goes) then I can see Hilly bringing in a loan signing. But for the time being I see it as him putting his full confidence in Gorgeous George, and also exposing Bunney and Gray to first team football.

He's always played as an attacking midfielder when he's played against us. Hard to say because he seemed to be everywhere! As things stand, he wouldn't even get in my starting XI! I didn't think I'd be saying that when we signed him. Cavanagh and Tutte would be my two central midfielders with a alternating bank of three of Henderson, Grant & Done in front of them. *Edit* Horrible typo! [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]
