This has been a bizarre season. The team only seems to prosper once they have have stressed the supporters to the max, and then revert when the supports start believing we have turned a corner.

Well done lads an important win, that will have taken the wind out of Altrincham’s sails. They must hate us even more than ever.

And with that in mind, critical game on Saturday

The performance will matter as much as the result

Not sure it will after this recent run. We’d want a good display of course, but if it’s the usual borefest at Boundary Park where we get a point that would be a decent result.

Not the at we shouldn’t aim for more of course with the way we’re playing and especially with how well the squad has been utilised over the last four games. Great display again tonight, we are playing in a controlled yet effective manner, something that was seen previously yet was mysteriously after the Yeovil game. Proof indeed how much confidence plays such an important part, as well as a talismanic signing like Bird.

Defensively we have been so good for most of the season, add a threat in the last third and we can beat anyone. Results business, McNulty’s ability to step up when this was all important has increased his stock. His players deserve all the credit though.

A borefest would be a significant improvement on what we saw in the home fixture against Oldham, who might have won by a bigger margin

Not giving way at this stage of the season is acceptable, even if they managed to sneak it

They might, but as was noted on the night they had a squad with little quality who appeared to only be set up to grind out wins. Their fans appear to agree with this and find them increasingly difficult to watch when their limited football doesn’t get three points. The difference is McNulty has assembled a squad who, despite the issues, can all play football.

Do I think this will ensure us finishing higher than them? Nope. But when we get it right, we are a far better side than Oldham can ever hope to be with their current set up. It was all a case of getting results to illustrate that.

Having now clawed our way back into the playoffs with games in hand, a single-goal defeat where we'd played with the kind of confidence we're seeing now would be far from unacceptable - i very much doubt we'll remain unbeaten for the rest of the campaign

What would be retrograde would be to allow their gameplan to dominate us. It's not as if the points you make about our respective styles and abilities isn't known - what i'm looking for is that step-change in JM's abilities which would mean we'll be contenders for the very top next year if we don't quite make it this time round

Once we get the Oldham game out of the way, we have a very favourable run in for our last 12 games. 7 of them are against teams currently in the bottom 10. and only York are currently above us. We need to be wary that we are capable of putting in Ebbsfleet type performances at times, but with the current confidence the team must have, there is not not really any excuses for not seeing us in the play offs. Hoping for a win on Saturday, but would not be too unhappy with a point.

Bird is the elephant in the room (pardon the pun). He has come in and turned our season around. He's only on loan which is a big worry for me, can Exeter recall him without any notice? Are there any guarantees we can put in place till the season is over? I presume signing him is out of the question outside of the English Football League transfer window? He's been a breath of fresh air though - the whole team have responded to him joining our squad - even Mitchell these last two home games has looked a bigger threat coming off the bench. Hats off to whoever scouted Jay Bird and whoever persuaded him to join us.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Altrincham had one spell, midway through the first half, when they looked really dangerous and forced corners in quick succession.
Apart from that, with the exception of a break from Newby following a Dale corner, Dale controlled the game I thought.
Waller saved that one to one opportunity really well though. He’s so good in those situations. Did it in the cup tie the other week and also early on at Halifax.
The best compliment that you can pay Kingdon is that Gordon isn’t being missed too much. He’s visibly growing in confidence with every game.
Alty’s manager might boast that he understands how we play down the right but his team have been incapable of stopping TAR from getting to the bye line.
Don’t forget that teams in the top places of the league have to play each other as the season reaches a climax - Oldham play Halifax next week for example.

Credit to McNulty and the team- the last few games we’ve really gone up a gear. As others have said Bird has been a catalyst, he holds up and brings others into play so well. For the first goal his ability to run with the ball too really impressed.

Waller has really kicked on since arriving and reminds me of a young Conrad Logan. His distribution has definitely improved- more credit to both himself and Lillis.

Honourable mentions to Barlow and Kingdon too.

Final word for the defence. It’s as solid as we’ve looked as a collective for a long time.

Gilmour back to his best makes a difference too and East finding space ahead of Gilmour allowed for a quick pass out from Waller after we've repelled an attack which nearly brought a couple of goals.

Could be that Gilmour's game has taken an upturn with a more forward-facing approach by the manager - and better forwards

He's been a revelation since he took the armband. He seems to have gained a yard of pace and is clearly enjoying his role.

Just on the transfer situation.

The window for National League clubs closes in the final week of March. Players have to be registered by 5pm on the 4th Thursday in March, so this season that'd be Thursday March 27th. Until then, clubs are free to make permanent and loan deals.

The summer transfer deadline and the January window don't apply to the National League and below.

Great to watch - felt like a throwback, attacking the Sandy in the 2nd half with proper purpose, confidence and intensity. The busy schedule actually seems to be giving us energy - maybe play, rest and play again rather than getting too bogged down with training and preparation is helping in a way (obviously allied to a building sense of belief as well). Bird makes a huge difference and the defence, marshalled by Hogan, is looking assured with Kingdon showing maturity beyond his years. Also both the midfield and Waller probably our best in those positions for some time.
