Russell Martin goes but results wise nothing changes 17:29 - Dec 26 with 1250 viewssaintmark1976

He didn’t help himself with bizarre team selections, tactics and substitutions but really, was it all his fault ?

Another game passes without us adding to the previous eleven goals scored. Honestly, how is it humanly possible to score only eleven goals during eighteen matches ?

Sports Republic’s decision to extend Armstrong’s contract by three years must rank as one of the most ridiculous decisions made in the history of the club. He couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo last time we were in the Premiership for pity sake.

Their recruitment policy for strikers ( if indeed they ever had one ) during the summer has proved to be an absolute disaster.Championship and Premiership cast off players asked to play at the highest level with utterly predictable outcomes.

Blame Russel Martin by all means but please don’t let that cloud your judgement of the total bunch of incompetent chancers who currently own and run our club.

Blimey Saintmark. You weren't slow to have a pop.
You clearly didn'tsee the improvement on the pitch. This would have been a 4-0 drubbing ten days ago.

Was it all his fault? A good question -probably not, but it was his decision to play the tactic he did when clearly it was not working and at times it was suicidal. But, unlike some I don't have any angst towards RM. He was not a bad manager and certainly he deserves some respect for turning around a declining team post Jones and Selles into one that got promoted, albeit through the back door. His downfall was his ability to adjust tactics and to adapt and it was clear that nothing was going to change and for that, he ran out of time........regrettably.

Now RM has gone do I believe that we are going to walk into a land of milk and honey - No - and today proved that. We may change our tactics and approach and our manager but we don't have the players to compete at this level and we certainly don't have the strikers or midfield that can sting the opposition when we are on top. So, we will still get relegated. The only question is, will we get relegated with a fight or go down in a whimper????? Time will tell.

Things were more aggressive today and we had more chances and shots. I enjoyed the performance more. But you're right, we still lost. Tall Paul was a real menace up front.but he missed sitters. Dibling also missed from 5 yards and it ended up in the stands. The recruitment has been terrible. Our players gave their all today, but people.need to.understand that we aren't good enough. We don't ha e a match winner like a Bowen, an Ings or whoever.

So, you're saying that a year and a half and 3 transfer windows after RM took control it was still too early to be clear that he was the cause of a lot of our problems - even though that was blindingly obvious to anyone who knows anything about football (who do you think needed to give their agreement to AA's contract btw?). Yet after 1 game(!!) with Ivan in charge, and with no chance for him to influence our recruitment, we have co conclude that "nothing changes"!!!??!?!!??? Give it a rest and give him a chance.

Nail on head A1079.

I’m heartened that there are others who hold a similar sensible view of what is happening to our club rather than taking out their frustrations solely on the recently departed Russell Martin.

Then again it is Christmas. So I suppose its only to be expected that they need a pantomime villain to assuage their anger.

I'm happy Martin has gone, awful football that provided awful results. He deserved what he got for being inflexible...who did he think he was?! Pep?!

One game under a new coach and another defeat. Disappointing result but positive signs in terms of changes in attitude and mentality on the pitch. A fresh start with the fringe, squad players being given consideration for selection.
After only five days the new coaching staff have not had the opportunity to work on the “details”, as Ivan Juric referred to in his post match. I guess these details would be things like building confidence, composure, fitness, physical and mental toughness, organisation and general Italian like Série A horribleness.
Anyone who thought things would change overnight has unrealistic expectations.

Martin’s results speak for themselves. He was an obstinate, arrogant shit and an utter failure in the PL.

I’d have sacked the tvvat after 6 games which would have been easy as I certainly would not have extended his contract as the dimwits on the board did in the flush of our scraping up last season.

I have no idea if Ivan will be terrible (to coin a phrase) but I’m mighty relived and feel a lot more optimistic and will now likely renew my season ticket for next season.

At the very least we're going to go down fighting with this guy.

Martin's was a slow lingering death by a thousand passes.
