We have a new set-piece coach, and it seems he is a fan of Zonal Marking.

I’m a simple person. As I suspect most footballers are.

Just get them each to mark a player of comparable height. And to compete for the ball.

Poll: Would you take Ward-Prowse back?

Never been a fan of ZM - It requires certain types of defenders - to all work in unison .... and a great many just get confused, and appear to be saying " what ZONE am I supposed to be defending? Then you see arguments between defenders about WHO was supposed to pick up the oppersitions goalscorer !!!!!! .......... Pat from Poole is spot on .......... with man to man ALL defenders should know what to do , and marry up according to height - and is very simple to operate.

Awful thing, just mark your man, touch tight and get to the ball first, its not rocket science

Our set piece defending the last 2/3 seasons has been toilet, this is not only down to poor defensive coaching but equally the fact we are missing leaders at the back

NB we STILL need a good keeper and a proven CB again

Andreas Georgson.

He's an expert who "Eats, sleeps and breathes Set pieces".

Even he's going to have his work cut out with our defence.

Will also be interested to see what he does on attacking set-pieces.

Bit of a gaping hole looming there…..

Big worry.

Without JWP i'd. say Perraud and Kami Doyle were our best free kick takers.
I can see Perraud leaving and Kami Doyle wont be getting much game time in the 1st team.

Only hope that JWPs replacement has a good free kick in him.

Of coarse the best solution would be to keep Prowsie.

ZM is a nonsense.
ZM means our defenders are marking space not players.
Spaces don't score goals, players do.
Also ZM creates uncertainty & players leave it to each other.
Not surprising we concede so easily from set pieces.
Call me a dinosaur but I firmly believe in basics, Mark a player & make sure the player you're marking doesn't get a free header.
And why do we expect our smallest players
to compete with the opposition's biggest players.
It's all very simple, why do we complicate it.
