10,000 more than SheffUtd for this season who are 2nd in the league. The North East has always been fanatical for football Boro well supported as well. [Post edited 14 Jan 2023 22:24]

Sunderland support on 22:32 - Jan 14 with 2065 views | felixstowe_jack | You can't really compare the population of the two. Population of Sunderland City is 277,000 covering 137sq km while the population of Sunderland metropolitan area is 344,000. Population of the county of Swansea is 264,000 covering an area of 380 sq km. The population of the actual city of Swansea, without the Gower, Gowerton and Gorseinon is 170,000.

Sunderland support on 10:26 - Jan 15 with 1843 views | KeithHaynes | I think people need to understand that the swans support is drawn from areas far away from the area in Wales, and beyond. The populous has little to do with it, Burnley and Blackburn are examples. A successful side ( Sunderland fans see their side positively ) will see more people watch them. They have a ground that aspires to that as well, Swansea were limited in their thought process when the liberty was built. Another example maybe of a parochial view which was tinged in negativity at the time, much reflected on here at times despite other obvious evidence. At the clubs height around eight or so years ago the Liberty could have sold out twice over. That’s a fact. The attendances at Wembley remain the best a Welsh side has taken to the ground. It’s all relative.

Just to clarify wasn't having a pop at our support. Was just commenting on the crowd 2nd biggest in the country including the PL some get very defensive when complimenting other clubs. 40,000 is very impressive for a mid table Championship club.

Which raises the old thorny question of why the stadium wasn’t expanded . Swansea has massive potential still.

Our average crowd this season is around 17k give or take, we don’t need a bigger stadium. In our last 2 seasons in the PL there was never an issue getting tickets. When we played Spurs in the quarter final of the FA Cup their fans sang ‘your grounds too big for you’ due to the number of empty seats

Thanks. I simply do not agree We had crowds of over 25 000 regularly at the Vetch in the 50s. A Swansea is not a small town Nobody could ever convince me that a 30000 capacity ground was no appropriate . We could even tout for Wales games instead of every game going to the massive Cardiff city Lego stade de shyte. My point is the club was not marketed properly. We have kids all over south Wales looking for a successful Prem League club to support . Sadly, too many suppor5 brand name clubs now

We shall have to agree to disagree on this one. We are agreed on the poor marketing though. My fear with having a much bigger stadium is that the atmosphere could end up being a bit like the CCS. I also think season ticket sales are going drop off somewhat for next season due to cost of living squeeze and some of the boring football on offer for too many games

I’m not sure what the numbers are this season compared to last season. But the away support is as fervent as it has been for years. I think a ground of around 26k as was on offer would have worked really well.

The cost of construction for even an additional 5-6k is prohibitive. That ship has sailed for a while. It would take several seasons of capacity crowds for return on investment. Can’t see anyone gambling on that when even basic contract renewals are being rejected by so many players. Away support has been terrific as it has been for the last 20+ years. Shepherds Bush Green is going to be lively on Saturday, loves a London trip

I’m referencing more about when the opportunity was there initially Next Saturday ? I’m almost thinking it could be a goer.

Sunderland support on 16:32 - Jan 15 with 1565 views | Paxton | I think their full season ticket price isnt much more than the Swans. Although they do have a very attractive pricing for under 18 & under 22 Season Tickets being around £96 & £165 respectively. I believe these options are very well subscribed. They do have a near 49,000 stadium to fill and I believe they use other incentives too. Saying that, it is great support from a historically well supported club.

Plenty actually the North East is very much like South Wales. Relies on heavy industry for employment. Hard working and very friendly people. Some stunning beaches and countryside give me that over Birmingham or London any day of the week. [Post edited 15 Jan 2023 16:44]
