Having read the way that Beale wants to play with a back four, and the comment that “all of the players are young and have their best days ahead of them”, I fear for Barbet

It could be Dunne and Dickie as the first choice CBs. Possibly with Masterson as a back up as they’ve banged on so much about developing and bringing in the youth.

It would be such a shame for Barbet to just be released. I bet he comes back to Loftus Rd with another team and is motm!

Meanwhile League 2 ability academy players are getting four year deals.

à bientôt Yoann, you deserved better than this.

I’ve no problem with giving Ossie Kakay a long contract. Nico was possibly a mistake but probably not a very expensive one.

He would have been on a good wage as all free transfer signings demand more. Keep him and we could either have have nothing available for new players or a points deduction for breaching FFP.

Great move for the man himself a 3 year contract to a gorgeous region of France to one of France's sleeping giants. As for the QPR part of the equation if the rumour he wasn't even spoken to until last minute.com then that is concerning but hopefully just a case of a player too expensive for us at his age and if we go to a back 4 he would struggle thanks to his lack of pace(Not that this isn't an issue for Dunne or Dickie either)

If we do re-sign Adomah, you'd imagine it will strictly be for 15 minutes cameos off the bench when we're either chasing or closing out games. (And that he's getting paid in bus fare and replica kits.)

The club would surely walk over broken glass to somehow be shot of Johansen and his contract. I'd be surprised if he features much at all on the pitch from here.

I have commented many times on here that SJ was playing through injury since he arrived on a permanent. It depends how it goes after a rest and the pre season. Can he get back to the player he was when on loan here. If it's not possible, due to injury, then I wonder if we could make an insurance claim to pay off his contract.

Is this the same fella who was a total liability in a back four, a penalty waiting to happen, diving in rashly and punting the ball into touch two years ago?

Agreed the last 12 months he was good, sometimes extremely good, but did that have a touch of the Matty Rose about it?

I’m not too fussed either way. Would’ve been good to keep him so he could eventually score from a direct free kick (if not this next season then maybe the one after); I wish him well for the future.

Things like this are only remembered if he had signed a new 3 year deal with us.

I’ll never forget that moment when he was sent flying head first into the dugout against West Brom.

A sickoning thud and a hushed silence from the crowd. Will he ever walk again? Is he even alive?

Then out of the mist (or was it just poor floodlights?) he arose with a scar the size of a king-sized mars bar. Caramel gushing down his face.

A mop of the brow. A shake of the head. Socks and boots refastened he got to his feet and slotted back into our 3 man defence. The rest is history. One of the best things I’ve ever seen at a football match.

He’ll be talked about by our children. Our childrens children……

The legend of Barbet.

I really liked his attitude, great character, and his lack on injuries was almost freakish. A constant.

Good tackler.

But horribly exposed when part of a back 4. He wasn't great in the air and despite MW constant reiteration that he was a 'superb technician' he was a horrible long passer of the ball, only an average short passer, and not very quick.

So I'm sad to see him go but he certainly isn't irreplaceable.

"Matty Rose" is a bit harsh on a man who played the full 90 minutes in 79 consecutive games!

Of course it might be wages that caused a breakdownt in negoiations.

Though it might have been the length of contract offered. Three years to a professional footballer is a hell of an incentive. I can't imagine that the club would have offered that.

Sometimes agreement can't be reached when neither side is guilty of being stingy or greedy.

We'll probably never know.
Could be wages but suspect it's more likely length of deal and a desire to return to France.

I can't imagine Bordeaux, who have been relegated to Ligue 2, could pay significantly more than us. But they are offering 3 years + 1 year option + bonus for promotion back to L1.

Matthew Rose did actually play 242 games for QPR which is 30 more games than Wayne Fereday in more or less the same period of time only 30 less than Ian Dawes who by most fans would be remembered as a fairly consistent full back both in terms of play and availability. Think the reference was more of a player far more comfortable in a back 5 than as an out and centre back in a back 4

Perhaps, I took it as “shakes off chronic injuries when his contract is nearly up”. I liked Rose, as it happens.

My impression of people from Bordeaux is not a good one, but Barbs deserves a couple of years in the French countryside after that amazing run of consecutive games for us.

If we're apparently going with a back 4 it's probably better all round - he was a revelation in the 3 compared to a lot of the 'shit!-lunge-recover-repeat' I seem to remember from when he first came and played in a back 4.

But on the left of two other CBs he was the man (and still managed to keep things interesting with the odd gaff-lunge-block combo from time to time.)

I do think people are a little harsh on Barbet in a back 4. To be fair, the whole defence, and the keepers, were shaky back then. I think he probably could play in a back 4, with decent full backs (and did quite well at the end of the season).
Sad he's gone, really liked him. Hopefully better to come.

Bare bones.

They do that - the buggers.

My bad impression actually comes from trying to get back from Marrakech at the beginning of the pandemic. Some very bad, pushy behaviour from hoards of 60-something Bordeauxnians in ski goggles - bunking the queue and yelling "Bordeaux" at me from minimal social distance.

When you go back to the announcement on Niko all very positive that he signed, lots of people wanting him in the team as Wallace was useless. Same people now slaughtering the club for this one. 4 years was excessive but if he'd come in and done well would have looked a good move.

Mate literally no-one has ever demanded Niko should be in the team.
Kakay has had a number of good games and has his strengths but Niko is sadly way off our level I’m afraid and has never looked good enough so the 4 year deal was a terrible decision.

"Mate literally no-one has ever demanded Niko should be in the team." - You've clearly not read the 46 replies to that tweet from the time they renewed his contract.

It's a cheap gamble, I'm not sure what the fascination is. He even comes with an agent seemingly able to get him off our wage bill with increasingly surprising loans, which is a bonus.

read the replies to that link, almost every reply is get him in the team. Plenty on here were saying it as well, imagine I probably was as well as I thought Wallace was hopeless

I agree he's miles off it and the deal was daft but thats not what many fans were saying when he signed the deal. I just found it interesting looking back as obviously with hindsight it didn't work out
