The teams at the bottom of the Championship are terrible. Derby are half decent and are winning games. They've picked up 13 of the last 15 points. The three teams above them have a combined 8 points over the last 5 games. Combined! They do not need to win at anything like their current rate to get themselves out of trouble, TBH
It may be out of their hands.... The administrators have until 1st Feb to provide evidence they can last until the end of the season. Otherwise the club will be liquidated and removed from the FL

i think there's a decent chance Rooney may be off to manage Everton any minute.

To give him his due, considering what he's had to work under this season, he's not done that bad a job. I thought when he took over there he would show as much managerial acumen as Shearer did at Newcastle.
I think he's showing he has more about him as a manager than say Lampard. It would have been very easy for him to walk out of the absolute shit show that Derby currently is.

Now that would be another real kick in the stomach for them, if that were to happen. Especially as he is helping them make a real fist of their survival chances and showing some managerial skill without any of the financial backing Lampard had.

Agree, Rooney’s earned a lot of respect from me for the last few months - he’s got on with it, can’t recall him moaning the press once, and got his team of doomed rejects winning games. Fair play. It’s good management better than anything Lampard has shown
All bad news off the pitch for Derby fans and Everton sacking Benitez today may make matters worse and they will be doomed if Rooney leaves. He is their only hope of staying up.

Issue would be if thrown out of the league in feb points would be lost as results deleted from this season , anyone got who’s got what against derby so far and how it might affect the top 6

If you took off points won against Derby top 10 looks like this. Only QPR and Blackburn have beaten them in the top 10

Looking at current top 8 teams:
QPR and Blackburn have both beaten Derby (played them once) WBA have drawn and lost to Derby (played them twice) Middlesboro, Fulham, Bournemouth and Huddersfield have all drawn with Derby (played them once) Stoke have won one and lost one (played them twice)
EDIT - just seen daveb has provided an updated table

Rooney going to Everton could save Derby. If Everton have to pay compensation, those funds might be sufficient to allow Derby to trade until the end of the season. Better relegated (with a lesser manager) than liquidated.

Obviously complete conjecture here because none of us could possibly know...but could this be another area where Mel's workings at Derby prove to have a sting in the tail? Rooney's extortionate costs are covered by the sponsors in the "Star Man" clause of their sponsorship contract...
Without the 21 point deduction they'd be top half. That's amazing, but they are in deep doodah off the pitch. And they lost Marshall, Jagileka and Shinnie last week.
If they do manage to avoid the drop it will be a miracle, but nobody should write them off.

They'd have to finish the season basically the equivalent of around 7th/8th in order to stay up.
Without the points deduction they'd currently be 11th and about 6 points off where they need to be in the table come May.
It's doable but a massive task especially give they cannot strengthen the team and could lose more players on top of one's already just gone and Everton could be looking to contact Companies House to rename themselves "Wayne Rooney's Everton".

Can't see Everton going for Rooney, too high a risk given their position. Also can't see Derby being liquidated - always a first of course, but there's no precedent for a team of their size.

Everton should go for the Brighton manager but reckon it will be Lampard
