The IRA were doing the same in the 70’s and 80’s too - that situation was sorted out by sensible action from the UK government. Over the last 20 years the policy has changed to overthrowing those people in control of such lunatics and set them free to act out their Jihadi fantasies.

Far too many dismiss these attacks as random incidents of Islamic terror with no understanding of our rather active geopolitical role. We overthrew Gaddafi, killing civilians in the process, and gave his assets to an unstable puppet government resulting in another civil war 3 years later and a collapsed state. The perfect environment for breeding extremism.
If we're going to stop Islamic extremism we have to stop facilitating the destruction of states. That's obviously a very complex issue so the simple-minded will always look for something a bit easier, often to affirm their own anti-immigration agenda. |  |

The West doesn't have the best track record when it comes to dealing with the Arab States/Middle East, going right back to the Empire building period, or perhaps the end of WW1 when randomly drawing lines on a map to delineate States was somehow seen as a better option than dividing things up along ethnic or religious lines.
Doesn't excuse the murder carried out by those to whom we have extended our hospitality however, whether it be more recent arrivals such as the Reading attacker or some of the 2nd/3rd Generation perpetrators of the 7/7 attacks. The destruction of the Libyan state ironically sped up immigration of sub Saharan Africans which Gaddafi had blocked for decades. And led to vast numbers either luckily making it to Italy or not so luckily drowning in the Mediterranean.

And before you criticise those drumming up islamaphobia (which is wrong). Just remember you were quite happy for the entire police force to be dragged through the dirt in this country because of the actions of one officer in America. It always amuses me that Leftys who claim that the partition of India was a great crime, simultaneously claim that the Sykes/Picot agreement was a great crime because it created states that contained people from different cultural backgrounds.
