Does Brexit die tonight? 11:59 - Sep 3 with 35311 viewswestwalesed

When this bill passes, which I expect it to, my understanding is that the EU theoretically can propose a different extension to the proposed January 31st, 2020 date currently in the bill.

The bill states that the PM has to accept that date, and that Parliament has two days to either accept or reject it (thereby putting any future extension date in the hands of Parliament as opposed to the PM). Given that we have a remain leaning parliament currently it's hard tp see how any proposed date would be rejected.

PM Johnson would then seek an election as he has stated, but now that it is looking as if the opposition parties may not get to the two-thirds of MPs required to trigger it, there will be no election at all. What then?

With a Govt that has to accept any date given and Parliament refusing to give him an opportunity to change the make up of the Commons, is this the day that Brexit dies?

Is it revoking A50 by the back door?

Yes indeed, equally as ridiculous as a Northern Labour M.E.P posing alongside Michael Heseltine whom was the one that announced the destruction of U.K coal mines.

I was counting the DUP with the government.

Yes, I don't suppose it matters but it would further embarrass Johnson if they remove their confidence and supply support. Perhaps we will have another PM in a week.

As reflected by latest polls.

Boo's "weekus horibilus" has increased lead over Labour in the polls.

The conservatives are in talks with the brexit company as we speak.

And it’s not just London, it’s cities in general where they’ll lose votes. Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff...Plus the South East. Plus places like Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Sussex. All seats in Scotland possibly.

The thought of ‘working class’ voters supporting Johnson, Rees Mogg and Farage tells you everything you need to know about how ridiculous this all is.

The damage for the Tories will come in urban areas and affluent but ‘liberal’ areas as you say. Sadly we don’t have many to kick out in Merseyside or even Chester. Even without a ‘formal’ pact I can see tactical voting losing many conservative seats. Still probably a hung parliament, but could yet see a more moderate labour person as PM. I left labour as I dislike the extreme left of momentum. Voted for Yvette Cooper as leader. Convinced she would be PM if she had won then.

Thatcher insisted on no subsidies. Long time ago but UK coal was subsidized at about £ 4 a ton German at £ 18 and Polish a lot more. They kept producing. The German Govt has just agreed billions to soften the blow of closing down the coal industry in the former DDR. What support did Westminster give to South Wales?

The Labour Party and parliamentary remain alliance have gifted 'the-enemy' with an extraordinary own goal.....I suspect Tory strategists and spin-doctors will exploit this to the hilt.

Respect however to Labour M.P's whom despite their Kamikaze action(s) have shown 100% loyalty to their own party.

I was referring to election strategists who are about to exploit the "to every action there is an opposite to equal reaction" end-result to what has gone on recently in parliament.

I expect an upsurge in Boris Johnson popularity aided and abetted by behind the scenes teams whom are streetwise and astute to know exactly how to take full advantage of popular opinion... Imo, these resignations will have zero negative effect on Boris Johnson's opinion poll ratings, in fact his popularity is more likely to rise because of.

Or millions on a royal family and residences.

Calling a 79 year old a selfish c**t for using his right to vote for whoever he wants. Lovely. I’d call the people who have been demanding the result of the referendum be overturned because it didn’t go how they wanted it to, the selfish ones personally.

Kinder, gentler politics.

Momentum Camden trying to trigger deselection of Labour MPs, including Keir Starmer.

Momentum is an entryist group.

If you're trying to equate removing the whip from elected MPs voting against the party in government with an entryist group wanting rid of elected MPs due to not being Corynish enough for them, good luck.
