Why are the BBC calling people migrants and not refugees...?

The King James is a beautiful piece of work.

I did, however, when I saw the story of the migrants yesterday, remark that many of those most vociferous in their opposition to these people arriving would also be the ones most vociferous in their celebration of the birth of a man who spent a lifetime explaining why the correct response would be one of welcome...

“Peace be within your walls and security within your towers!”

As has been pointed out, that’s not a text which incorporates the teaching of the man being celebrated yesterday.

Since you like the King James, perhaps you should read Matthew 25 :

Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

I did. I hadn’t even realised until I read your post.

An inveterate dramatist. I’m sure old Billy Tyndale will be looking on from the great beyond and nodding approvingly.

Matthew had never encountered Islam.

Answer to the OP, probably the same reason the term 'benefits' replaced social security. Deliberately framed to illicit a response, often subconscious.

If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face--forever.

The term refugee has a legal meaning derived from Article 1 of the 1951 UN Refugee Convention:

[Being a person]
1(2) As a result of events […] and owing to well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality and is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country; or who, not having a nationality and being outside the country of his former habitual residence as a result of such events, is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to return to it.
(I cut the bit that was amended by the 1967 Protocol).

Article 33 is the origin of the 'first safe country' rule, which so many have been trying to blur.

As regards the religious aspect, I can't help wondering whether Christians might learn something from Buddhists, who have more first-hand experience of what 'come' and 'inherit' may involve.

“Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world…”
