Pins in new shirts. There used to be about 10 of the little buggers. You could never be entirely sure you’d found all of them.

Delivery vans and mini-cabs pulling in to the kerb to drop-off or deliver parcels. Why bother when you can just shove on the brakes and block at least one lane of traffic while you faff about in the back of the van? With any luck you can use parked cars to block the entire road both ways - result!

I used a tea strainer the other day, for the fabulous mountain tea I bought back from Crete

Remember these?

Is that the herbal stuff, R? If so, my Dad used to swear by that when he had a cold.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Fabulous mountain tea from Crete? That's made my day.

Do they still make Galtee cheese? A processed lump that looked like earwax, we had to buy it because it had milk from my uncles' cows in it.

Imagine taking the cigarette paper off and poring boiling water over the remnants - that's more or less what it would taste like.

I bought mine from a monastery - yes, really - while I was in Crete but I think it's this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cretan-Herbal-Cocktail-20gr-Karteraki/dp/B06XB2VVV7

A strong, deep and multi-faceted taste. Very pleasant but quite messy to use and dispose of!

The Rent Lady.

I was brought up on the White City Estate and on, I think Tuesdays an oldish lady would come round to collect the rent. She would be walking around with the equivalent of thousands of pounds in a pouch. Was she ever mugged ? No, she wasn't and some say we haven't deteriorated as a society. Can you imagine how long she would last if that practice existed today ?

Penny for the Guy. Me and my brother used to make our guy out of mum's tights stuffed with rags and newspaper and fashion a crudely painted face. Then we'd sit outside the newsagents calling out 'penny for the guy'. Usually collected enough to buy a few bangers, roman candles, pyramids and a Catherine wheel.

I loved looking at all the fireworks inside the glass case. And of course all the other things you could do to make a few bob, like finding empty beer bottles and taking them back to the pub for the deposit. The kind of thing that really needs to come back...

Poll: Who is your player of the season?
