Gylfi on 20:28 - Aug 8 by londonlisa2001 | That's fair. But as I said a few weeks ago, we have, in turning down the offer of two weeks ago, effectively paid out £40m plus on one midfielder when we don't have the ability to bring in the players that we needed. And we've done it in order to be bloody clever. And those of us who've been Swans fans for years, could see this coming a mile off. Teams that are far richer can afford to invest so much in one player. We can't. |
Yes, when evaluating the offer it should have been a discussion about 'would we at Swansea pay 40m to buy Gylfi Sigurdsson'. If the answer is no, as it surely is for 99.9% of normal people, then get the deal done and move on. Unless it was rock solid Everton will pay the extra, The delay kills us. I stand to be wrong but if I had to place a bet now and only had one, I would bet on us accepting the lower bid in a week or two, and scrabbling around getting screwed on the players we need. For it not to be a shambles now, requires a miracle, even if we get the extra 5m.

Gylfi on 20:34 - Aug 8 by Darran | I completely agree as you probably know I said basically the same thing on twitter two weeks ago. There's playing hardball and there's fuçking up and if this falls through not accepting £40million is fuçking up big time. |
I didn't know that Darran, as I still don't follow you on twitter... But yes, if this falls through, it's an absolute cock up to end all cock ups. Even worse than Bradley. And even if they're lucky and they sell him, it's still awful club management, as we are going into the season with a bench that looks like a League 1 team.

Gylfi on 20:34 - Aug 8 by londonlisa2001 | That's because, as you've admitted on a number of occasions, you don't understand the finances. It's why you've spent ages talking about (insert name of random European player) joining us for 'only' €10m 'whether we get rid of Gylfi or not'. Investing £40m on one player for us is madness when there are weaknesses all over the squad. Why we don't have any money to spend is a different matter, as we bloody well should have if the club is being managed properly. But we don't have the sort of money that selling one player for in excess of £40m would give us. |
you seem to forget how well we did in the last third of the season gone ,keep the head specialist ,plus Siggy ,we've replaced Leon ,what's the problem ? ps we've now got a very good manager at the helm aswell

it didn't bother us before .There's always room for improvement in every department if the cash is available which it's not for us , so we soldier on with what is a fairly good squad which more than held their own when it mattered

No, I haven't forgotten at all. I also haven't forgotten how woeful we were for the few games that we had an injury to Naughton. The game where we were without Olsson. And how lucky we were with injuries. I also haven't forgotten that Rangel and Leon are another year older, nor that we've shipped out Borja, Gomis, Cork, Barrow, Amat from the first team squad (all of which is fine) and haven't replaced Barrow nor Cork (if you assume Mesa is Britton's replacement). And I also haven't forgotten that Gylfi doesn't want to be here, Llorente has a broken arm, and Ki is out until at least mid September. Oh, and Montero is permanently injured. We have a bench that includes McBurnie (not shown himself to be good enough as yet), Grimes (similarly), Fulton (solid enough for the odd 20 minutes, but not as a long term option surely), and are one injury away from having VDH, Rangel and God knows who else on the bench. I agree re the manager but the squad is very weak.

Gylfi on 20:18 - Aug 8 by Darran | That's not completely true. If someone tossed £50million into the transfer kitty tomorrow they'd keep him. They want money not him gone and they've got a big dimella. |
Well if you mean by "completely" it's down to Siggy's sale value then ok. But prior to this Summer when things have gone off chart, a respectable bid would have been enough to tempt PC and the Board. So let's be hypothetical here. A team offers us £10m - no deal, what's the point A team offers us £30m (start of the Summer) - PC says I can do some damage with that. Let him go. Big issue we've had since is the American's have got their teeth into the business side of the deal and been willing to forego a thorough and prepared pre-season in holding out for what they see as maximising the sale. Clement doesn't want him now, he just doesn't want to miss out on what could have been.

Gylfi on 21:20 - Aug 8 with 2112 views | monmouth | At the risk of having lifeys teeth in my calf, I'm in full blown preseason pessimist mode. I'm fully expecting us to track Hull and Boro from last year. Ok if mediocre first ten to fifteen games then injuries and suspension, and relying on a few players, shows up the reality, and yet another late rearguard needed. Relying on our luck not to run out this time, or getting a boost in January again. Still, hope springs eternal, and all that shit.

It comes down to options and with him gone and his money there's a lot more. I'm hoping you'll find, as the season is wearing on, that we'll be more like Saturday's friendly against Sampdoria than we were the pragmatic, often boring side of last season. And that a Siggy type player wouldn't fit into that style of playing.

Well I don't want to worry anyone... but Tammy is currently listed as having a groin injury. Expected return by Saturday though and looks like him coming off in the Sampdoria game was just precautionary. http://www.premierinjuries.com Player Tammy Abraham Reason Groin/Hip/Pelvic Injury Further Details Aug 05: "He felt a bit tight in the groin so rather than risk it, he wanted to come off." It's a huge concern. That, and we're relying solely on him for the start of the season. Him and McBurnie, of course. This is the true cost of the businessmen playing poker with our Premier League place.

We were in the exact same situation last summer; half a season of great form and a good manager at the helm. Resting on laurels doesn't work in this league.
