The election results thread 19:10 - Jun 8 with 57876 views | exiledclaseboy | Polls close 10pm. BBC, ITV and SKY release the results of their joint exit poll also at 10pm. Some of you may remember election night two years ago when the exit poll predicted a Tory win. It was roundly ridiculed by politicians of all parties and most us on here. You could see Professor John Curtice (who oversees the poll) visibly wilting and wondering if he'd just wrecked his career and reputation. The same Prof Curtice got progressively more smug as the night rolled on and it turned out his poll was more or less spot on. First result due about 11pm. From Sunderland. The outcome may be a foregone conclusion but it should be exciting for about an hour or so. Get it stickied for 24 hours or so please, mods. Oh, and can someone keep Perch and Bluey away from sharp objects please. Just in case.

She'll probably be ok. Chumming up with the Irish bigots is taking us back to 1922.

The same Irish bigots Labour tried to get deals with in 2010 and 2015?

Except as I've already explained on another thread, they didn't. Don't believe everything Guido Fawkes tells you.

The election results thread on 18:16 - Jun 11 by blueytheblue | Friend just texted me a link to an interview between Andrew Marr and John McDonnell. Marr asks if Labour lost the election, would he and Corbyn resign? McDonnell replied (paraphrasing) "Yes, it's inevitable if you lose an election". Well, Labour lost... so Uber for Corbyn and McDonnell then. |
They won more than 6 seats from the Tories. That means they won the election

The election results thread on 19:25 - Jun 11 by Jack_Meoff | Ta. I'm guessing a longer clip would provide a little more context. Just a thought. [Post edited 11 Jun 2017 19:29]

It's not hard to find the details of that interview with Andrew Marr. I don't know if there's a longer clip out there. Having said what he said, John McD has now has to redefine "lose", which is why they're making a big deal of whether they "lost" or not. FWIW, Labour didn't come first - they came second by 50-odd seats. Maybe that's a better way of putting it.

True. In fairness, my comment was basically asking for a longer clip when it's something I could do myself quite easily. I'll watch the whole thing and make a comment. I'm more than aware of the result though.

The context is McDonnell fully expected they'd lose heavily despite public comments to the contrary. He knew full well in that case they'd have to go.

You didn't miss him. The focus was entirely upon Corbyn, as the Tories strategy was wrongly all about May.

Well of course, but they didn't so as irrelevant as May's six seat shit. I don't like McDonnell one bit, but this is as trivial as it gets. Pathetic.

Not quite sure what today's AM show has to do with the question. I presume you meant JM's interview. AM didn't bring up JMcD's statement from last year as to whether they would resign. As I said earlier Labour have just redefined "lose". But that's OK. I still find it hard to believe that a party that came second by 50-odd seats thinks they have a mandate to govern.

I was replying to bluey about a side issue, unrelated to your statement about any apparent mandate. It's all getting a bit straw man. So, for that reason, I'm out.
