The election results thread 19:10 - Jun 8 with 57869 views | exiledclaseboy | Polls close 10pm. BBC, ITV and SKY release the results of their joint exit poll also at 10pm. Some of you may remember election night two years ago when the exit poll predicted a Tory win. It was roundly ridiculed by politicians of all parties and most us on here. You could see Professor John Curtice (who oversees the poll) visibly wilting and wondering if he'd just wrecked his career and reputation. The same Prof Curtice got progressively more smug as the night rolled on and it turned out his poll was more or less spot on. First result due about 11pm. From Sunderland. The outcome may be a foregone conclusion but it should be exciting for about an hour or so. Get it stickied for 24 hours or so please, mods. Oh, and can someone keep Perch and Bluey away from sharp objects please. Just in case.

I like David Mitchell, can't stand Paxman. And the BBC is traditional, despite the Tory bias in its political staff.

Surely TVX would be more appropriate, unless you long to ride wildly on the back of Paxman, gripping his silvery mane as he motorboats Mitchell's buttocks.

What constitutes 'landslide' these days? And how depressing is it that a totally useless pile of absolute dried knobcheese like May might get one.

I generally lean towards the centre-right, but it's hard to disagree with your second sentence. This election has been utterly depressing. A piss poor Government fighting off an even worse opposition. Emigration is starting to look like an attractive option. Either that or setting up one of those micronations in my living room.

Boston, potentially where Nuttall is standing. The most pro- Brexit part of the country.

I'd say a majority of 100+ says landslide. 82 is a mere "f*cking shoeing".

I don't think anything will unless he drops to around 150 maybe. His supporters have their excuses/reasons all ready to go, we've seen most of them on here already. Hostile media, disloyal PLP etc. Never underestimate the cult of personality and the attraction to some of permanent protest politics.

Nothing for Corbyn there's more chance of Diane Abbott climbing Kilimanjaro tomorrow morning with anvils clamped to her coin slot.

The election results thread on 19:45 - Jun 8 with 8862 views | Lord_Bony | Well I've just done it. Standing at the voting booth with a pink piece of paper in my hand I glanced down at the local candidates for Cardiff North. For the first time I felt lost...I did nt have a frickin clue who to vote for. At one stage I was going to put a cross in Ukip but at the very last second I chose Theresa s local boy....probably influenced by the sexy letter she sent personally to ME...asking for my help. first time in my life i voted Conservative...kind of feeling dirty now. But hey ho,the show goes on. Really don't like any of them..

The election results thread on 19:47 - Jun 8 with 8854 views | centrestandswan | For any of us left leaning voters , should May win ,which she probably will, feel sorry not for yourselves but for the users of food banks, pensioners, young families, the disabled , the children in poverty, foxes and any other section of society that this vindictive bunch can brow beat and subjucate, the next five years are going to be tough but keep the faith. Yes the exit poll is the biggest indicator of the result if after hearing that I might as well go to bed and wonder why people like being brow beaten including a few on here.

Anything other than a significantly increased majority (at least 40/50 I'd say) will have the Tory knives out for Terrible Theresa. [Post edited 8 Jun 2017 19:55]

Thanks. But is it already safe to say she has avoided that, or can the polls get it so wrong?

The polls were hideously wrong two years ago but they'd need to be even more wrong that that this time.
