Hillary Clinton 12:53 - Jun 7 with 29457 views | snork44 | Well Ms Clinton has wrapped up the Democratic nomination for the President even though she could be indicted by the FBI over the private email server scandal. Uncle Bernie is staying in, mainly hoping that she is charged and he can take over the nomination even if that happens we will end up with a President Trump.

Hillary Clinton on 16:05 - Sep 27 by Catullus | When it comes to money in politics, aren't they equally as bad? When it comes to foreign policy, that's where I'm worried because that will affect us. Trump will threaten to bomb others into submission whereas Clinton will push for cosy little deals that look after the elites, dress it up all nice, but it'll still be elitist. Like the Clinton charity foundation which has had terrible press, like many other charitable foundations (including some started by Premier league players) plenty of money goes in but mot a lot makes it to good causes. It all comes back to Trump is a lunatic and Clinton is corrupt. On that basis I couldn't vote for either and I'm glad I dont have to. The situation is slightly less fuzzy over here. I don't see Corbyn as electable in any way, shape or form. May isn't a brilliant choice but miles better. Anyone who gives Diane Abbott a job cannot be allowed into No10!! |
I just explained how they are vastly different regarding the influence of money in politics....

No - Trump is a lunatic and corrupt. 'Clinton looks after elites' you say? The Donald actually admitted in the debate that he didn't pay tax - he described it as 'smart'. He also openly admitted that he had used the law to avoid paying people that he owed money to - hence his multiple bankruptcies. And the Trump Foundation is as bad as the Clinton Foundation if not worse. I don't like Hillary at all, but anyone that watched the debate last night (I did, in full) and considers the two of them 'as bad as each other' is genuinely missing the point. And as an aside - if Hillary had spent 90 minutes sniffing more than a deranged dog presented with a rotting bird, the right wing nut jobs that spend their days in worship of the Donald would have simultaneously had her at death's door and held her behaviour up as "proof" of her hitherto undisclosed cocaine addiction. For a woman with 'serious health problems' she ended the 90 minutes in far better shape than he did. Still, she doesn't have a 'secret plan' to defeat ISIS, nor can she point to her ten year old being 'great on computers' as evidence of her ability to tackle cyber crime.

I've not seen any evidence that she is any more crooked than pretty much every person that has stood for president (or been president). it's a function of their system.

Hillary Clinton on 15:47 - Sep 27 by nice_to_michu | The Senate is important, sure. But when it comes to Supreme Court justices, the weight of influence sides with the President. Take this past year, for example, Obama wanted to name a Supreme Court justice to replace the deceased Antonin Scalia, he knew that his ideal choice would never get through a Republican Senate, and the Senate at the time had no interest in approving virtually any nomination he put forward, thus, gridlock ensued. However, there had been considerable pressure upon the Senate, not the President, to confirm an appointment because it is customary to do so (within reason). One of the reasons the Republican-held Senate held off from confirming Obama's nominee is that they wanted to wait until the "public had spoken" and chosen a new president, and only then will they confirm. So it is entirely reasonable to think that the new president, whoever that may be, will enjoy considerable influence in the appointmentt of the next Supreme Court justice. And, given that both Clinton and Trump have said what type of nominee they will put forward, there will be a massive shift in ideology of the court. It will either maintain the status quo in regards to money in politics (via a Trump win) or it will not (via a Clinton win). It's a massive difference. |
Hence why the senate elections are equally important, no judge can be appointed without the backing of a majority senate rule. Extreme candidate appointments can be effectively vetoed by the controlling majority. Current structure sees a Trump win get free reign, but a democrat swing helps to curb this. Also, it seems the weight of power falling on the example given favoured the senate, by their ability to delay his recommendation. Although I do understand your point. ;) Like I said, I could not bring myself to vote on either. I'm probably different type of voter to most as I don't vote on the lesser of two evils (never made the claim they were equally as bad) but on who I would like to see be in charge, and neither tick that box for me, so I would not be able to commit to a vote.

Given that a lot of the questions are going to be fairly obviously, are you surprised that a candidate would have notes in front of them? When Obama's Press Secretary is asked questions by the press each day, he has notes in front of him because he has predicted what the topics of the day are going to be. They could ask him anything, it's just a guesstimate. It's called preparation. You think that Nigel Farage has been briefed as to what the questions will be on Question Time when he reads his notes? Or is he just doing his preparation? As for your conspiracy theory about an earpiece for outside help and hand signals to the moderator, it's just remarkable that anyone would believe that. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I wouldn't argue about the rest of it, but the earpiece sounds perfectly feasible. They all wear earpieces anyway, even when not on tv they use them for security purposes. The hand signals thing, well who knows but if the mediator was biased toward Clinton I doubt he'd need prompting to help her out or dump on Trump. It's politics though so I wouldn't really be surprised. I'm critical of both candidates, I think they are both dangerous just for different reasons. But I can't help it, I know Trump is a nut job but when I look at Clinton I just see a liar, someone equally as untrustworthy as Trump. If either of them is the answer, the question has to be "just how badly f(_)cked up is our world" and I suspect we all know the answer!

With Clinton there is an attitude of entitlement, I was FLOTUS and now I should be POTUS , she did this when she stood against Obama. But to be honest both candidates aren't worthy to be the incumbents of the Oval Office.

Perhaps her sense of entitlement comes from having been a Senator for 8 years and Secretary of State for 4 years rather than FLOTUS? Given she is standing against someone who has zero political experience at any level. Just a thought.

Lisa,it's because she was FLOTUS that she got to being a Senator and then Secretary of State! If she was not married to Billy Bob, she would probably be Hillary Rhodham who would be either a successful lawyer or a Congresswoman or a Senator. Don't get me wrong she is a very intelligent and passionate Politition, but scandal and controversy follow her and Bill around like a bad smell. Without the scandals I would love her to be President and I think she would be a very capable president, but the questions against her weigh against her candidacy. As for Trump the guy is narcissistic, egotistical bully who had got this position just through his name and the fact he is a reality tv star, the guy has nothing new to say has no policies and just repeats the same thing time after time like a mantra.

?? I assumed that was what you were referring to when you posted the other day? They'd already said that there were problems with his mic levels in the hall. Did you miss the bit where they said after investigation " Any problems with the microphone did not affect the television broadcast, which was seen (and heard) by some 84 million people." I don't know about you, but when I referred to him sniffing constantly, I was watching on the BBC, not in the hall. So again I ask - do you realise how ridiculous it sounds to say that the mic made it sound like he was sniffing like a demented dog and yet his voice sounded completely normal? For the sake of clarity - on the TV. Is it a dodgy keyboard that has made him tweet crap in the middle of the night again this week abusing that woman and inventing a 'sex tape'? He's a complete ar*e.

Exactly. Trump supporters think that this admissions about the microphone is some sort of smoking gun, it isn't. There was no difference in the audio output for the millions of people who watched it on TV. Just chalk it up to another nonsense theory by Trump and his crew. In Trump's eyes (and some of his supporters), he won't actually lose the election. He has convinced so many people that the whole thing is rigged against him that the result will not be fair. If he wins, it's perfect. If he loses, it's rigged. That's his way of thinking.

Nothing would surprise me in American politics, not even an election being rigged. It doesn't make much difference to me though seeing as I believe whoever wins and becomes POTUS, America loses. These two candidates have some similitude but the world is probably safer if Clinton wins, Trump is just itching for a fight with somebody. His finger on the button is a scary thought. Though maybe we could put Trump and Putin in a room (maybe several other world "leaders" too) and say last person standing wins.
