My mate and me flew out for a weeks holiday in Portugal straight after our game on the Saturday,so we missed most of the unfolding stories. The papers were a day or 2 behind in getting out there and we couldn't much of the tv coverage on Portuguese tellies. I'm not sure that I want to see it now.

Yep awful game that 0-0 , it always sticks in my mind that game for 3 reasons a mark dennis 50 yarder that nearly went in , a mark stein shot that hit the post and getting back to the car to find out that people had died at Hillsborough my dad and his mates were calling scousers animal's etc and that it was another Heysel awful to think back now but those were the times and Liverpool had that reputation when I started to go football with my mates the season after I had to lie to him that we were in the seats as he didn't want me to stand, he even gave me extra cash to sit but I would buy fags keep the rest and go on the terraces I never told him the times I would go to the highbury, Spurs , upton park either the warning signs were there at that end , 81,87, 88 and still it was allowed to happen
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot

Hillsbourgh bbc2 on 11:12 - May 9 with 4361 views | AgedR | Even now, after the complete exoneration, there are still murmurings of "self pity city" and suggestions under the breath of "ticketless fans" being in some way culpable. That is how ingrained the lie is and how completely the narrative has been stolen by those in power; to the point where even fellow fans, who have so much shared experience, are STILL suspicious. This program should be required watching for football supporters and working people in general as an example of the complete contempt that the establishment holds us in. Duckenfield has apparently lied for 27 years due to post traumatic stress... He should be held accountable for his actions. Personally. As should all estates of the establishment that allowed this to happen, then shamed the memory of the dead and the honour of their families. This is the next challenge. Actual justice.

Hillsbourgh bbc2 on 20:15 - May 9 with 4109 views | themodfather | it was too easy to blame fans and yes the hooliganism made clubs put up fences but the MEDIA LAPPED IT UP, printing hooligan tables and making celebs of arrested fans. to my points...i can't believe police that day DID NOT HAVE PERSONAL ISSUE RADIOS, in 1989?? police did not follow the plans they used for the same fixture at the same ground the year before...ie ticket checking, creating the "stagger" to ground and slowing it down, it was a free for all why did the security tape for the "pens" go missing for years and then suddenly turn up? the establishment kept the "fans to blame " and were "drunk" throughout, even accusing the young dead of drinking ffs!!! it all turned when burnham was at anfield and the crowd called for justice then he was bombarded with "justice for the 96" he was alone and could do nothing except feel the guilt and KNOW HE HAD TO GO back and do more....WHO REWROTE/EDITED the police officers statements? who ordered that cos they have very involved and made the conspiracy....were they govt? home office or police? they need to be found and named.... and when i complained of padlocked gates, padlocked steel gates AT PALACE approx 5 yrs and then 2 yrs after, i was given grief!! the steward nearest didn't have a key nor knew who had it, in WOODEN STAND ( think bradford fire) the police told me to go away and i went to the football supporters trust and fire brigade and it then involved the local council and still gate is padlocked next visit !! hey ho....a sad programme for a terrible day.
Hillsbourgh bbc2 on 20:19 - May 9 with 4098 views | TGRRRSSS | So many of them should be in the dock, not just Duckenfield had this been a private company cooperate manslaughter charges for sure, including FA such as Graham Kelly one would think. You only have to watch interviews with the MP various SYP people interviewed in the past and even the guy in the late 90s appointed to look by Straw and his incredible comments. How was it Taylor worked it out and they still perpetuated the lies? As someone else said this is the Establishment and what they really think and who they really represent. Dare say it's not been any different in the intervening years. Even now you've got the Times and others rushing to defend them.

Interesting, because in October 2011 the same David Cameron stated: “The families of the Hillsborough tragedy are a blind man, in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn’t there.”

I went with a Spurs mate to see Wimbledon v Spurs at Plough Lane that day. News started filtering through via tranny radios and the tannoy of trouble among Liverpool fans at Hillsborough. Certain sections of Spurs and Wimbledon fans began chanting 'We hate Scousers and we hate...... Obviously Heysaal still fresh in many memories of fans of rampaging Liverpool fans both abroad and at home ground in the 80's. This time they were very wrong. Leaving Plough Lane that day after the game, there was a sombre atmosphere and a nasty crush to get out of the stadium. A very sad day for football.

Re Heysel, it was alleged afterwards that the Liverpool crowd had been infiltrated by some far right groups like Combat 18, and fans from other clubs like Man Utd who were out for revenge after they got attacked by Juve fans and Italian police the year before. Did anyone high-up ever get charged for Heysel, within UEFA or Belgium? The stadium itself was totally dilapidated and ticketing and policing for the final was a mess. In no way excusing the actions of certain fans that led to innocent people dying, but with better organisation by the authorities catastrophe could have been avoided.

took 27 years to get this far. probably be another 27 before we see anyone in court for this. if they're still alive by then. 96 deaths deemed as un-lawful, but will anyone be punished? doubt it.

Utter bollox and is a myth created by the Liverpools fans and board did those naughty undercover headhunters dress in scouse wigs and silly moustaches as they charged across the terrace ? and as for Man Utd teaming with Liverpool I don't think so , maybe its time Liverpool fans put all that crap to bed themselves and take the blame for Heysel 26 Liverpool (14 given 5 year sentences) fans were actually charged with manslaughter as well as 2 police chiefs and the head of the Belgium FA because of Liverpool QPR probably missed out on 3 European campaigns as well as other smaller clubs like Coventry & Wimbledon whilst they went on to UEFA & Champions league finals im happy the families of those who died at Hillsborough are finally getting the truth and I hope south Yorkshire police the Fa and government are taken to task and nicked for killing and covering up those poor fans but in general I hate everything about Liverpool FC and hope Sevilla thrash them in the final

To be fair, the ban on English clubs wasn't solely down to Liverpool. Heysel was the final English straw that broke the UEFA camel's back. After all, Juve fans fought that day, too, but there was no ban on Italian fans. English fans had sinned once too often. Many, many clubs must take the blame for the ban, including Rangers. we weren't as Neanderthal as most clubs but we had our fair share of thugs and thuggery too.

Hillsbourgh bbc2 on 15:19 - May 10 with 3621 views | kensalriser | Fair point Brian. Society at large was thoroughly sick with football hooliganism by the late 80s. Marauding fans running through town centres before games was a common sight that had been going on too long. Not that it was only football related of course, the mods and rockers clashes predated widepsread football aggro. But the scene was set and crowd trouble all too believable. It was easy for the police to construct a credible false narrative.
