Taylor - can't cross for sh*te Fernandez - passing is woeful Gomis - isn't good enough to get us out of this slump We're unable to score from set plays We're unable to deal with set plays efficiently Refs are unwilling to give us anything. the plus.. we looked a solid unit in open play, covering each others mistakes.

Post Match Discussion on 19:05 - Dec 20 by LeonisGod | It was a vastly improved performance. But to quote Brendan, without any penetration. Much better but 2 pts dropped against the worse side I've seen down here in a long time. In years gone by we'd have tonked them, and therein lies the problem. But good to see some of the old swagger back in the first half. |
West Ham had injuries which we didn't exploit.. Tomkins right back Antonio on the right wing Ogbonna at the back fairly comfortable Jelavic doesn't start.. can see why Zarate isn't the best defender We didn't exploit these positions to our advantage.. we probed but didn't exploit a weak West Ham rear guard.

Vast improvement in open play possession and defensive positioning in open play.. not much else to shout about.. we didn't exploit or execute any West Ham weaknesses. Take the blinkers off.. the boys did well approach isn't good enough i'm afraid. Standards dropped from the Man City game.

Why Curtis went for Barrow rather than Montero when he finally went for some width, I have no idea. Why Ayew was subbed off rather than Gomis, I have no idea. Why Cork went off for Shelvey rather than Ki, I have no idea. Rangel was constantly looking for Dyer ahead of him in the first half - occasionally Cork was there, more often there was no-one. Gomis was very poor, back to his worst IMO. Wish Routledge had been fit so we could have gone with the same formation as against City. If Routledge isn't right for WBA, might be worth giving Emnes a go in the same formation? Not a bad performance but only 2 shots on target out of 21 with 73% possesion - speaks volumes.

Post Match Discussion on 19:10 - Dec 20 by EvenThisNameIsTaken | FFS - Give Curts a chance getting us out of the Monk style of play! He's had two games!!! Back to reality Skips - we've played immensely better today compared to under Monk. Just look at our possession and passes for instance. Sure we didn't win - but then we weren't awarded penalties either that should have been given to Swansea. But sure - keep passing blame. It's what you do. |
Not at all, we're in the bottom 3.. not to exploit West Hams right flank was pretty amateur from Curtis.. we need results and particularly wins against wounded opposition.. Not the we played alright approach.. we need to grind out victories.

Curt dropped a b*'ll*ck by not subbing Gomis and pushing Ayew into the CF role. Ki looked terrified all game and should have mGs way not Cork and Montero on instead of Barrow

Post Match Discussion on 19:45 - Dec 20 with 1563 views | 1973scott | We maintained good possession but still lack that cutting edge or fire power up front, can't see many goals coming our way unless something changes quickly and that is a big problem especially when teams around us seem to be scoring goals. The question is can we afford to wait any longer to appoint a manger? I know HJ has said that we will wait to appoint the right type of manager, but how long?

Agreed we need the wins ,the problems we have is monks legacy and maybe the boards we should have got rid quicker were not going to get the results until the football returns as its doing now then the gaps will appear and hopefully other players rather than just the strikers will score goals again and we will escape ,for the record I'll take 17th on goal diff now

They had five first team starters missing today, we were at home in a game we needed to win. I'm sorry but that wasn't good enough, we pride ourselves on our home record and it's non existent. If they had Payet, Lanzini, Sakho and Carroll we would have been hammered today and that's not mentioning their best defender Reid who was also missing. We had nothing going forward, as someone said previously some of the subs we made were baffling. [Post edited 20 Dec 2015 20:04]

Post Match Discussion on 21:09 - Dec 20 with 1411 views | lancasterswan | Positives, take positives. Compared to last year we're on the floor and staggering with the count at 4 or 5 and still a bit stunned. So what do you take out of the last month? After the swagger of pre season and August, it has been a total downhill spiral and because there is noone experienced in this position apart from, ironically, Curt who has seen it all in spades, we are not as badly placed as we could be. Positives: Injuries are light going into the Christmas/New Year period, the squad are fit and motivated, we have fixtures we can win coming up in a topsy turvy season where everybody is beating everybody else, we have a goalkeeper who is totally with us and can produce brilliance (to save that point today), a solid defence with only one or two worries about carried yellow cards (Ash). So what are the negatives....obviously last 20 yards, lacking two players with the hunger or skill to know where the goal is. Loads of shots but a fraction on target. Baf brilliant on occasions and lazy backpedalling and offside so often. Make THAT the training ground exercise with linesmen operating ffs or put him behind Sig or Ayew... or find a 'sniffer' like Crouch or Carroll who have no doubt where the goal is with a blindfold on. Service is fine to the 18 yard box. Finishing is the difference between relegation and 10th place. How many times have we murdered sides in the first 30 minutes and the score remains 0-0? You can't help thinking that in a generous moment, Bielsa will have tuned in to this game today and KNOWN what was missing, just the last 2/10s, and known how to solve the problem.

Good god, I agree with you mate. Have you been on the electrodes? You've gone all calmly sensible. We lack attacking ideas, but with even average luck we would have won. West Ham are no mugs even with a few out and have three 0-0s in a row including OT, so Man You must be look 'a relegated team out there' I suppose. I think we're in deep trouble mind and was really disappointed we didn't catch a break yesterday, but to not recognise the improvement and that we can clearly extricate ourselves when the wheel turns, at this early stage of the season (whatever actually happens) is what is deluded. Leicester were f*cked as late as March then luck and confidence carried them through. One thing that can be said with certainty though. We have some truly shit 'fans'.

Post Match Discussion on 10:36 - Dec 21 with 1189 views | Pegojack | I thought it was a decent performance against an understrength West Ham side, but we bought possession by having four men in midfield and no wingers. We were always going to dominate the play in the first two thirds of the pitch with that line up, but at the expense of penetration and goal scoring opportunities. Curt baffled me by not introducing a winger sooner in the second half, and when he did, he made the wrong choice. The West Ham full back on their right was dodgy (the bloke who got booked) and I felt Montero could have exploited this. A special mention for Leon and Ash, who were both generally superb, and not afraid to get stuck in where it hurts, unlike Ki. OK, putting himself about is not his game, but Ki seems to have lost a bit of that hardness he gained from his time at Sunderland. Players still aren't showing for throw ins. Also, some of our decision making is putting us in unnecessary trouble at the moment. One example, a free kick to us in the second half deep in our territory. Fab should have taken it, putting it long upfield. Instead, Ash takes it short to Taylor who has a man up his backside. It gets scrambled back to Ash, who is also under pressure, and we eventually give away a corner. All because we didn't do the simple thing. Gomis was back to his usual self, slow to get back in position, not attacking the ball in the penalty area, and spending more time on his arse than on his feet. I still feel if we don't buy or loan a decent striker in January, we are going down.

Post Match Discussion on 18:57 - Dec 20 by skippyjack | I have already pointed it out.. 3-4-2-1 play with wing backs.. we need to stretch out the oppositions back four to keep them thinking.. Naughton & Taylor are incapable of playing it IMO.. but Rangel and Tabanou are more than capable. Cork/Leon Ki would be ideal at breaking up the oppositions midfield.. Gylfi would be deployed to suit the game.. Eder can press, Ayew can drift.. the fullbacks have to be one their toes constantly. I don't think we have the staff to carry out the tactics efficiently.. especially in a relegation battle.. we have to use our tools effectively to look threatening. |
Skip, the way Ki is at the moment he couldn't break an egg box up let alone the opo's midfield plus he couldn't tackle a good dinner, Leon is the one that breaks up the opo's possession, the diamond pattern we played yesterday just slowed the pace of the ball down everything was static or slow, the few times when we could have moved a tad quicker, but we either passed sidewards or back, frustrating to say the least.
