How good can we get? 13:12 - May 4 with 3857 views | deanscfc | We only have four wins less than Man Utd in 4th. If we strengthen in the summer, spending on a striker like Mitrovic and getting some quality in at fullback then what is possible for us?
How good can we get? on 13:19 - May 4 with 2816 views | JBT95 | Our home form this season has been good but it could have been better. The only game of the four we have lost that we should have lost was the 5-0 hammering by Chelsea. Draws against Sunderland, Newcastle & Palace could have easily been wins. Our away form has been very good since Monk took over. [Post edited 4 May 2015 13:20]

How good can we get? on 13:19 - May 4 with 2815 views | hooplehead | It depends on the will of the club. We could get to fifth by christmas but the vultures will be circling and we'll probably sell our new 20 a goal striker and replace him with someone from middlesboro. I think that's the reality of it. I hope I'm wrong, but probably where we are now is about as good as it's ever going to get and that's not so bad really.

I'm not so sure this is as good as it can get. In the past i would have agreed with you...but some of those 'big' teams just aren't that strong anymore. Spurs aren't much better than us, neither are Liverpool...and Man Utd we beat twice. We need a left back, no disrespect to Taylor but he's not been great and a striker in the region of 12-15m. Then maybe just some depth in midfield and on the wing.

I've said ages ago that Monk proved me wrong. Initally i didn't think he should have been manager like a lot of people but have supported him for a long time now. I'll be honest and say that sometimes I miss our possession football and domination of games but hey i'd rather us win and Monk has done a great job motivating the team when they could have been on the beach. How far do you think we can go then?

We are more gritty and not so pretty this campaign so is the mixture of both the new Swansea way? Not as we are Daz but we are no longer a poor club and don't forget the obscene money coming our way next season so we can afford to set our sights higher along side finding the rough diamonds out there. We need to add some players in DM, LB, RB, CF, RW and more I believe so we can have some strength in depth in certain positions. Who is leaving the club over the next few weeks, or out of contract or returning to/from their parent clubs? LB, AR are okay for the bench but aren't our first-time starters anymore, although AR played well on Saturday, but he's finding it increasingly difficult to get back. ND is not the player he was for whatever reason we can only hope that its injury related and the close season will sort it out.

Bigger fanbase bigger stadium few more foreign players big South Korean fanbase massive Iceland following, couple of germans and we are there I've done the marketing plan for you

How good can we get? on 16:24 - May 4 with 2416 views | lifelong | 6 points clear in 8th position with 3 games remaining, it doesn't get a lot better, to get into the top 6 in the next season or two would be just incredible but not impossible.
How good can we get? on 16:43 - May 4 with 2386 views | JackSomething | It'd be great to push for top 6 and it's possible with the right signings, as Southampton have shown. What Southampton have also shown is that when you punch that far above your weight, the big boys come sniffing around for your best players. It's all very well talking about the bigger money coming, but the bigger clubs will get an even bigger slice of that pie. As the latest accounts have shown, wages have reached a high proportion of our income (around 65% I think?) and I don't think the club would like it to creep much higher, which limits what we can do in the transfer market. What the extra money should do is widen the gap between us and the clubs in the Championship, meaning we remain unlikely to be relegated and in a strong position to return quickly if disaster strikes. Stay in this league, continue making a profit and build squads capable of challenging for cups and European football. Sounds fantastic to me.

How good can we get? on 17:24 - May 4 with 2284 views | Neath_Jack | This is what a bit of success does to some people, gives them unrealistic aims. We are already punching way above our level, not by any luck of course, but by good organisation, teamwork and plenty of effort. I don't buy into the crap about small club mentality, because at the end of the day we are a small club. Just being realistic. Plenty of clubs before us have got to these dizzying heights, then a few short years later have disappeared into the depths of the lower divisions. We are only one bad managerial appointment or a few bad signings or a few injuries to key players at key parts of the season from being in trouble. Just because we are "established" in this league, it does not mean that we have a divine right to be here year on year, we need to scrap and fight for every point, every game. The trouble with unrealistic ambitions is that we won't attain them, then someone must be to blame within the club, we already have people waiting on Monks slightest mishap to get the knives into him. I'd love to see us improve next year, but in reality, this is as good as it gets, probably will ever get. I'm just enjoying every game/season that we are here. [Post edited 4 May 2015 17:55]

B0llox innit. The rise through the leagues and being known as a good footballing side are as far as it goes.

That's a pretty paranoid interpretation. This looks very much like a 'how far can we go' thread not a 'Monk will be a failure if we don't' thread, I can't see what you are reading into it. Personal opinion is we can't compete with teams like Tottenham and Liverpool on a consistent basis, but over a season, if they have a particularly bad one, absolutely we can. We probably would have said we couldn't compete with Everton 12 months ago.

No, no it isn't. People who have the finance and the inclination to do what they have done at City and Chelsea simply won't be interested in buying an semi-established Premier League team with a comparatively small fanbase and stadium. The sky would be the limit if rich foreign owners took over Liverpool for example. We could get foreign investment, but we aren't going to attract top level investors.

We must continue to keep this level and our player recruitment is massive just to keep us at this level. If we get the right players in then we stay around the mid table of this league, we get it wrong and we are drawn into a dog fight. If we finish 11th next year then i will be happy, for some it will be poor season and a backward step.

An indicator of our progress...up until last season you and everyone else would be saying you would br ecstatic with 17th next season. 11th is still pretty decent. I really see no reason that we couldn't compete for a top 6 place...if we hadn't thrown away so many points earlier in the season we would be there now...but I don't think we will as to finish top 6 you need quality all over the field with no gaps (like we do at fullback) and I think we will spend our £ on infrastructure like the stadium expansion.
