Fabs has saved us in several games this season, but I think tonight the uncertainty in defence - and especially wide - affected him. On several occasions he insisted on going long from goal kicks, which I put down to an ebbing away of confidence that we can play out from the back in our traditional way. To my eye there is too much negativity from too many players who would rather jink back then try to find a forward pass. Tonight one of those unnecessary back passes caught up with us. | | | |

I had had the earlier thought that Ash might be auditioning for a part at Anfield in the New Year. If so, he failed it badly. He uses the back pass to the goalkeeper far too often and Lallana was wise to it. I feel sorry that Fabianski was embarrassed by that own goal - which is what it was. He deserves better.
I tried to think of a positive from that match and the only one was that Fernandez was excellent, but he couldn't do it on his own.
We had nobody of the class of Couthino and that summed up the class divide. |  | | |
