Match Report Rochdale 0-0 Ipswich Town Monday, 5th Apr 2021 17:30 by Chaff A 0-0 draw, devoid of any quality whatsoever, saw Dale just about manage to keep in touch with the teams ahead of them in the relegation battle. Another defeat on Good Friday leaves Dale in a horrible position in the relegation battle with another very tough fixutre, this time at home to Ipswich Town and another game we're not expected to get anything from. The team news was pretty surprising with Gavin Bazunu dropped for Jay Lynch, Paul McShane rested and Haydon Roberts coming in to the back line.
Watching Dale isn't a pleasant experience anymore so we took to comfort eating Easter eggs as the game started. Dale had the better of the opening exchanges in the windy conditions but couldn't create anything clear cut despite haing much more of the ball. Ipswich had the first effort of the game but it was a poor effort which flew harmlessly high and wide of Lynch's goal from Andre Dozzell on 8 minutes. One of Dale's corners was taken by Done and just flew straight out of play and I thought that pretty much sums up this really dismal season. A dour first half an had created nothing in the way of goalmouth action and had been a pretty poor game so far. Dale weren't making the most of the conditions at all either and looked sluggish again. Alan Judge blasted a shot just past the post from about 25 yards in what was easily the best chance of the game on 38 minutes. An awful pass from O'Connell was almost capitalised on but Haydon Roberts did brilliantly to cover and get there first before the Ipswich striker. Half time came and there was very little else to write about. A freekick was hit wide by Dozzell for the visitors after a foul by Haydon Roberts but Lynch wasn't troubled by it. The changes were about to be made by BBM. I thought Baah has been poor and should have been brought off for the only natural striker on the bench in Jack Vale but it looked like Stephen Dooley and Alex Newby were being readied instead. A penalty shout for Dale but as Done went to ground, the flag went up. I didn't think it was a penalty anyway as I thought Done had dived. Dooley and Newby replaced Grant and Baah. Jimmy Keohane put in a potential goal saving tackle as Ipswich went close. The ball was driven into the box aftergood work from Dobra but Keohane pulled off a stunning tackle. Dale went close after some good work from Done but it was well defended. The corner from Newby was absolutely pathetic. The game petered out into a goalless draw which ordinarily you would take but draws aren't enough at the moment. Player Ratings: Jay Lynch - 6 (Not tested at all but didn't do anything wrong) Jimmy Keohane - 7 (Did well I thought, got forward when he could and pulled off a brilliant tackle) GABRIEL OSHO - 7 (My man of the match, thought he was very solid) Eoghan O'Connell - 7 (Did well I thought as well) Haydon Roberts - 7 (Solid and looked to get forward when he could as well) Matt Done - 7 (Everything Dale did in an attacking sense came through Done, did well) Conor Shaughnessy - 6 (Did ok, should win so much more than he does) Ollie Rathbone - 7 (Much better, really hard working performance) Conor Grant - 6 (Did ok, good feet but lacks pace) Kwadwo Baah - 5 (Poor today, really struggled and doesn't seem to suit playing as a second striker) Jake Beesley - 6 (Worked hard but not involved often enough) Subs: Alex Newby - 5 (Poor when he came on I thought) Photo: Action Images Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
