Match Preview: Accrington Stanley v Dale Monday, 30th Dec 2019 10:18 by Chaff A horrible Christmas period has seen nosedive towards the relegation zone. Next up is the small matter of Accrington away as we kick off 2020 with a potential six pointer. Date: Wednesday 1st January 2020 Dale made the long trip down to Gillingham on Sunday and came back empty handed as we couldn’t hold on for a point thanks to a late Gillingham goal. That followed a defeat on Boxing Day to Fleetwood Town and a pre-Christmas away defeat at Burton Albion. Tis the season to be jolly they said! Tidings of comfort and joy they said! Stick it up your arse! Bah Humbug! Injuries have been never-ending and have played a huge part in the seemingly weekly rotation of players who probably shouldn’t be playing. Ryan McLaughlin may as well have his deal ripped up as he remains missing. Jim McNulty has proven to be a huge miss as well as he’s still out with a back injury I think but the shape shifting at centre half hasn’t helped at all. We’ve seen Keohane play there and more recently Norrington-Davies, one of the best left backs in the division, having to play centre half! Speaking of whom, he was carted off with a horrible looking injury in the Fleetwood on a stretcher. God knows how long he’ll be out for. McShane seems to be made of glass but looks quality when he does manage to get over the white line and play. Rathbone has been in and out of the side recently and reports suggest he didn’t look fit. Aaron Morley is also out injury with a thigh injury and then the big one, Ian Henderson. If this is what life without him is going to be like, then I may give up football and watch rugby instead because I don’t bloody like it. Hopefully his longest ever dead leg will be sorted sooner rather than later, or we may as well announce relegation. Oh, and Matty Done is also out but he’s offered very little for the best part of two years anyway. This is the risk you take when you’ve got about 16 pros but about half of them aren’t good enough. We constantly have kids in the matchday squad, and we’ve probably had more reason to call games off than bloody Bolton did! Bolton were one step away from starting a TV advert appeal for the state of their affairs and we’ve just got on with it. Our injury crisis is such that at Gillingham we had a front line consisting of a 40-year-old and a 16 year old. Tyler Magloire came into the side and looked decent. He’s going to have to mature quickly and become a bit of a saviour. Trips to Accy usually see us coming away with points and we’ve won our previous five meetings but I’m not so hopeful this time if you hadn’t guessed. Watch us get beat by Accy and then take Newcastle to a replay at the weekend! We pinpointed Colby Bishop as a threat earlier in the season and while he didn’t do much against us then, he’s bagged 12 goals this season in 24 games this season and looks the business at this level. He also has 5 goals in 5 games coming into this game though hasn’t played the last two games. Hopefully he may be missing on Wednesday! I don’t know how but Coleman just seems to work at Accrington and the job he’s done there is a tremendous one. They currently lie in 15th place, have a positive goal difference and look miles away from danger even though anything can happen from now till May and teams have games in hand on them but we’d all swap places with them in a heartbeat. That may sound like jealousy on my part and that’s probably exactly what it is!
