Travel News For Arsenal Game On New Years Day Tuesday, 30th Dec 2014 21:03 A few details on public transport in Southampton on New Years Day for those who might need to travel by bus or train. Bus services on New Years Day are basically running reduced timetables but with some early finishes. Solent Blue Line who provide much of the bus services to and from the City Centre from the outskirts of Southampton will run hourly services with most services into the City Centre starting from around 9 -9.30am and the last buses leaving between 17.50 - 18.20pm. First Bus who operate the outers within the City Centre are running a reduced timetable and like Blue Line will be running the last buses out of the City around 18.30 hers. Whilst we would advise anyone intending to travel by bus to check the bus company timetables, the overall picture is that most bus companies seem to be running reduced services and the last bus will be an hour or so after the final whistle at St Mary's. Rail services seem to be on a more regular basis and to much later times, so if you live near a train station this is perhaps a better choice of getting to and from the game than travelling on a bus. Again like the buses check the local rail network websites for times and news of engineering works etc. Sadly in the case of buses it seems that they have taken no account that there is a gam on and in an age when use of public transport is being encouraged they are putting on less services on a match day meaning that some services after the game may be full and without the option of getting the next bus.
