Jack Cork Is Saints Olympian Monday, 2nd Jul 2012 15:06 Saints midfielder Jack Cork has been named in Stuart Pearce's final squad for the forthcoming Olympics. Jack Cork was celebrating today after being named in the final 18 man squad for the London Olympics due to start in the next few weeks, the squad includes 13 Englishmen and 5 from Wales with as has been reported none from Scotland or Northern Ireland who have been afraid that by including their players it could compromise their current individual status as nations within FIFA. Whilst of course this is a big honour for both the player and the club, it will disrupt pre season plans, Cork will join up with the squad for training and a friendly at Middlesbrough on 20th July so ironically may miss the arrival of the Olympic Torch at St Mary's on 14th July, the tournament itself starts for Great Britain on 26th July against Senegal at Old Trafford with further games against United Arab Emirates and Uruguay and could stretch to 11th August only 1 week before the start of the Premier season, on a personal note for Cork this could mean that he would be highly unlikely to start the season for Saints as first choice as he will have had little chance to either train of play for the team in pre season.
