Subs go from 7 to 5 Thursday, 21st Jul 2011 20:23 by Col The Football League clubs have voted to reduce the number of subs from seven to five, just twelve months after introducing that rule. The decision comes after a number of teams found it difficult to fill their quota of seven substitutes last season due to injuries and suspensions, so they have revoked last year's ruling. The original plan was to bring the Football League in line with the Premier League, but financial reality of the Football League made this an impossibility. Teams will still be able to name seven substitutes in the FA Cup and the League Cup, but the five sub rule will apply to the all important Johnstone's Paints Trophy.
