| News Comment | Southampton Planning To Keep Faith With Russell Martin But Why ! at 14:17:55
If we're to stay in the PL we'll need to average 1.5 pts/game for the next 23 matches. No manager could manage that with the squad we have. So what half decent manager would join us knowing it's Championship next season. So, the only logic I can see is to keep RM until the end of the season saving some of the compensation, & then sack him. Use the next few months wisely to find a decent manager. That being the case we may as well try & sell those players who will leave in the summer, KWP, THB, Ramsdale, Dibbers & possibly Fernandez. Fees are higher in January & we won't be held to ransom in the summer. Plus I wouldn't spend a penny in January at inflated prices & let the new manager choose the players he wants. I know most people won't agree with this & no doubt SR can't think like this. |

After 2 games I said RM should be sacked & nothing since has changed my mind, except we've wasted another 4 games. Only RM could start Dibbers, our best young winger, as a striker & surprise surprise he struggled, not his fault, with 5 strikers on the bench which included our last 4 strikers signed - unbelievable. First half was just embarrassing, no fight, no commitment & no skill. Fraser was miles off the pace, jury still out on Ross but at least he was an outlet. Not a great fan of Aribo but at least he showed some effort fort & desire distinctly lacking with most of the rest of the team. Just sack RM now, whatever the cost. |

Archer flatters to deceive. Just 2 goals last year, got into good positions but just couldn't finish. No wonder Villa were so keen to sell, must have thought they'd won the lottery when we were willing to pay £15m. Nothing I've seen so far would indicate he's any better than Mara or AA. Yet again we've wasted money on a so said striker who can't strike. |

Congratulations to RM for another fantastic win - 74% possession. It doesn't seem to matter that we created next to naff all & scored just 1 goal from a set piece, its possession that counts. What a bore fest of a game, any neutral supporter would have switched off after 30 mins. How long will it be before he curtails Dibbers attacking flair. Can't see why anyone bothers to make an attacking run when the pass will just go back or sideways. Please sack RM now & put us out of our misery. But hey a wins a win. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester United The Verdict at 18:33:10
Whilst I agree with all the comments above, the key questions are: 1. How many goals are we going to concede, on current form it's going to be about 80. Let's face it we conceded over 60 in the Championship. 2. With 80 goals conceded we need to score a helluva lot of goals. But I can only see 25-30 at best. By signing Sheff. Utd strikers who managed just 8 goals, AA will get 2-3 as per previous years in PL. Wingers will chip in with 4-5. Our midfield are not goalscorers - admit Fernandez is unknown in that respect. Defenders will get 5-6. So by playing the same way we'll be relegated by Xmas if not before, so make the change now & replace RM with someone who understands the PL & allows the players to play to their strengths. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Brentford The Damning Verdict at 11:13:32
Sack RM now to give us a fighting chance of staying up, else we'll be relegated by Xmas. Bring in a manager who can see like everybody else that Stevens, Slowbone & Armstrong aren't up to the PL. Hopefully they will scrap this suicidal playing out from the back at all costs which at this level we just can't do |
| News Comment | Southampton Planning Triple Swoop On West Ham On Deadline Day at 09:00:34
Ings doesn't want to come, more interested in money, no doubt would spend more time on sick bed alongside Ross No to JWP, we've got enough tippy tappy sideways passers plus I don't believe he scored direct from a free kick last year. We don't want ex players who are past their sell by date & aren't really interested in playing for us. Both no doubt would command high wages. So definitely no no no. |

4 goals in over 30 games for Sheff Utd last season doesn't cut it for me. Seems like another striker who can score in Championship but not PL. 15M seems well over priced. |

Am I one of the few who are getting more than a little bit concerned about the state & quality of our squad as we approach the start of the season with 2 friendlies to go & you can see the likely starting line up. Offensively is a major concern. We have lost Che, Stu, Wee Man, Brooksie & replaced them with Diaz, Lalana, Charley(back from loan). With Lalana injured, yet to play, Ross permanently injured, we have Mara as back up striker. Rumour has it he hit a barn door in training, but it is just a rumour so he probably missed. Admittedly we have 2 youngsters impressing but will RM trust them in the PL, I doubt it. Starting with Jack as captain & playing him in midfield beggars belief. So if Charles leaves it leaves Jack or Manning as back up for Downes!! Defensively we’ve increased numbers but not necessarily in quality. Why has KWP not played a single minute yet, can only assume he's leaving even if not to WHU. As for watching McCarthy try to play from the back so is a disaster waiting to happen. It looks like Lis is returning to Turkey on loan so the goalkeeper options are even more threadbare. Perhaps the next couple of weeks will see some major improvements, we can but dream. |
