What happened to Sean Clare after?
at 08:34 4 Sep 2018

Heard at the time from a few people that he'd failed the medical. Could be just Twitter hearsay circulating, though.

According to Nixon, we can "Expect first [of presumably more than one signing] to be agreed today".

Interesting conversation between them on Twitter. Some bad blood, perhaps?

Nah, Twitter's the cesspit of unsubstantiated rumour. Those two are where the evidence quickly emerges, if any.

Not on Reddit or 4chan by this point = bullshit. Almost certainly not true.

Jordan Ayew not able to play for new club
at 14:42 15 Aug 2018

From Palace subreddit:

"Rumour from within the camp (friend of mine knows coaching staff - I know, I know) that Ayew has not ingratiated himself with his new teammates and has subsequently been left out of the 25.

Sakho said to have had a training ground bust-up with him on Friday then Puncheon on Saturday."

Edit: though bafflingly CP have 26 names listed in their squad on the PL website, Ayew being one of them: https://www.premierleague.com/clubs/6/Crystal-Palace/squad

As has been mentioned as few times (admittedly amid the squabbling), there's rumours he failed the medical. I see no reason why this announcement would have been delayed as long as it has unless there was anything untoward at play.

As much as I'd love for the petulant, unprofessional shithouse to just rot in limbo and not play, it's not great news for us. AFAIK, there was no option or obligation for Palace to buy, so it's just going to make his value plummet when the loan finally ends.

Hope we don't recall him regardless. Don't want his poisonous presence around the players who actually give a toss.

WE DIDN'T MOVE AWAY FROM WHAT WORKED FOR US, WE WENT BACK TO IT

Hard to fault any of that really. Top post.

And my post was basically a paraphrasing of the following from the OP; the "up to Rodgers' era" was my erroneous amendment:

"* In the EPL we had one season under Rodgers who recruited as we did post Monk ie the transfer committee
+ we then had one and a half seasons with Laudrup who changed it to his way
+ we then had the rest going back with the transfer committee"

To be fair to the OP, reading the original post, it's pretty clear-cut and all there.

Rodgers' era — largely transfer by committee (A)
Laudrup era — transfer by Tutumlu (B; thus, A > B)
Monk era onwards — again, transfer by committee (A; thus, B > A)

Whether or not you agree with it is another thing, but semantically there's nothing wrong with it.

After the succession of garbage coaches we've had over the last few seasons, I think we owe the majority (if not all) of our players the opportunity to show what they can do under a competent coaching team, especially in a lower division.

He'll be a good player for us this year, will Carroll.

Alas, you're quite right. That'll be the wishful thinking clinging on... Seems others are sharing in my delusion.

Still, my point remains. If they want to up the price at this late stage, tell them to swivel. Quite happy for them to have a unsettled player on their books, as long as we manage to get someone else in.

Twitter hearsay, but rumour is that Brentford have upped the fee to £8m to match the Clucas sale. If they insist on moving the goalposts, hope we tell them to shove it and move on to other targets sooner rather than later. Woods seems a tidy player, but we should not be held to ransom here.

July 2014. The start of Monk's first full season.

In Jenkins' defence, £4m for a young, highly thought-of midfielder from Ferencvaros didn't smack of one of his signings then, and it still doesn't now.

(He's not black, doesn't have dreads and isn't from Falkirk, for a start. )

I sincerely hope that's true. However, the events of the last week or so have certainly cast considerable aspersions.
