But we were rewarded with a come back win with Callum Hiiginbothams impersonation of David Beckham if I have the right game in my head. |

Aye and we all walked to Accrington to raise the money. It lashed it down. |

It is sunny and windy in Geordie land today. The Gateshead pitch should have dried nicely by tomorrow. But will be very cold at the game - forecast 2C. |

That did make me smile. Even Backburn Rovers up the road with significantly more resources than we have couldn't get their game on today. When it rains on semi frozen sub soil, it doesn't drain quickly. Our pitch is pretty good for a non league club. It has had more than £1m spent on it over the past 5 years. Owdum have had similar investment but theirs came from the council. We haven't got an open chequebook and to be fair we don't have many postponements anymore. We have to suck it up and move on. Pity this couldn't have been a Sunday 1pm kick-off with hindsight. |

We'd be doing the same to be fair. Should remind them that if their fans knew how to behave it would have been a 3pm kick off and they could had another 700 seats too. Better chance of being on at 3pm. |

But they are on the same site aren't they? |
| Forum Reply | Hopwood Hall at 15:00 20 Nov 2024
The Hopwood Hall college site already has substantial sports facilities - including pitches - and other professional football clubs have used the site in the past (I seem to recall Accrington Stanley and Barrow FC) but don't know why we didn't think they were good enough for us. Probably want total access and control during the day to be fair. |

If CO went to so much effort to market the club to investors/sponsors he should be pretty disappointed with the football served up on the day. As the owner, he will know not to interfere with day to day football matters, but he has been backing JM beyond the original playing budget in recent weeks, and he should remind JM what he expects for that investment - effort, application, honesty and integrity - as a minimum. I feel sorry for CO. His family's ownership should have lifted all the doom and gloom and help rally the town to support the team again. But it hasn't really. For us to be sustainable as a club, we need another 1000 through the gate every week. We need to be winning football matches and playing football that we enjoy watching. I know the fanbase is split on this, but we have the talent and we know the team can do it when set up properly. Jim is a lovely man, and the players seem to love him. But some tough love needs to come from elsewhere. As for next Saturday, it would be helpful to hear what the club is doing to ensure the game is going ahead - like extra frost covers hired etc etc Especially as so many exiles will need to be leaving home at 7 or 8 in the morning. |

The club is majority owned by the Ogdens. The AGM is a legal requirement and actually has a small and limited agenda. Of course shareholders can turn up in force and ask questions related to the business under AOB. But one of the impacts of our new ownership model is that the minority shareholders now have little impact. You can't always have your cake and eat it. Of course engaging with the fans is critical to the club and regular forum sessions are helpful. The majority of fans are not shareholders and would miss out if the AGM was the place to air views. And as for the Trust holdings, we have a Trust member on the Board. Whilst I joined others in buying shares when the club was in a mess, I don't feel they are worth anything now and have come to accept that. |

Have you ever said anything nice or constructive on this board or you just come on to chastise fellow fans from time to time? |

So they gave it five stars overall, based mainly on value for money, with the lowest score of 3 for the food. He made the observation that the seats had poor leg room and is the reason I don't like it. But as we shared last month when people were unhappy - no other club has an offering at the price level of Dale. For a season card holder, for £35 more you get a two course meal, half time cake, a programme and access to speaker and player of the match award. Oh and a decent bar. [Post edited 4 Nov 11:42]

It might be worth checking if Gateshead or York want to bring forward a game from next year to this as we meet both on a Tuesday night. I am sure both clubs would prefer a Saturday fixture as they are fairer to the travelling fans. Just a thought |

We did well then. Lots of new faces near me today. Hope they enjoyed at least 80 minutes of it and want to come back. |

If we forget those first 5 minutes of absolute comedy gold, it was a pretty good game to watch. Shame we messed around with subs at the end as we lost momentum. Gutted we're not in the draw. Never mind, there is always the national league tinpot cup on Tuesday |

But Andy Duff was very clear here and I am surprised you missed what he said. He has to focus on the bigger things that drive revenue rather than cost. So he is more focussed on sponsorship elements rather than seasonal functions. Running events at Christmas etc takes a lot of manpower, does drive revenue, but also drives cost. The true net profit from such events makes it a lower priority than the higher value stuff. Does he use his time to run Christmas party nights that haven't been particularly successful in the past, or does he drive two new sponsors. He was clear on that. Of course over time he said he will work on activities to drive retail revenues in the shop, and functions in the bars. I'd love the club to be a go-to destination on a non football day for events such as Mothers or Fathers Day, or Sunday lunch for example. But the facilities need investment, including the kitchens. As for the free ticket giveaways - didn't we give 5000 free tickets away last Boxing Day? Most didn't come. Of course you could argue that it was a bad day to choose, with no public transport etc etc. In reality we have to win football matches - that gets bums on seats with people paying a fair price to do so. He also told us that there is no CRM system in place regardless what Bottomley said we were getting. So they can't yet target lapsed fans and irregular visitors effectively. And a free ticket can't be targeted with a low cost second ticket very easily. He doesn't have the resources to do it manually. Better to get that right so we don't waste the opportunities. Lets not criticise him when he has already given the fans a detailed explanation of why he is doing what he is doing. And the Ogdens will be well aware of his priorities and plans. |
