Just watching the Aussies this morning and saw Aaron Mooy playing, remembering him from his Huddersfield days, and got me thinking about players at the current World Cup who've played at Spotland. Kane and Trippier both played in the 2-2 but is there many others?

Don't know if anyone clocked Calvin's reaction to Hendo on Tuesday as Hendo finally left the field, but he was so pleased you'd have thought he'd broken the record himself. However his co commentator had a face like thunder.

Feel very fortunate that in my time of watching Dale, I've seen Jonah become the record holder for appearances, Hendo become the record goalscorer of all time and Keith Hill lead us to more promotions than everyone else put together.

Barrow (h) Match Thread

Bentley's appointment is proving to be a masterstroke. Whether he was first choice or not, I don't think we could have made a better appointment.

The closing days of Stockdale had a whiff of Steve Eyre. Players overcoached in a style they weren't good enough to play. Teams don't succeed at our level through ambitious tactics. it's hard work, togetherness and keeping it simple. Even Hilly when he first took over turned things around by keeping it incredibly simple and getting the players to enjoy playing.

Defenders defend. It's an old fashioned concept, as we preferred to have defenders stood behind the keeper at goal kicks, before trying to pass their way around a swarming attack. These days, they've got one job to do and if they have to get rid of it, they get rid of it.

Bentley has them smiling, keeping it simple and working in a way that plays to our strengths. They looked totally lost at the end of August. Now they're confident, enjoying their football and probably can't wait for the next game to come around.

You can see the players are buying into it. What he says, works. He referenced a throw in routine yesterday that led to our first, and after calling the players for not following up the penalty save at Northampton, they saved us two points by doing exactly that the week after at Colchester. What happens on the training pitch is paying dividends on the Saturday afternoon.

Thought Barrow were a half decent side. Whitfield was one of the best opposition players I've seen this season, and had they had a Quigley in their team to get on the end of his crosses, it might have been a different story.

Long way to go yet. We're not a play off team that was horribly mismanaged. We're probably a bottom six side based on the squad but Bentley is starting to get the most out of them. it's unlikely that we will get rid of the threat of relegation until way into 2023, but there's a clear route away from it when it looked a forgone conclusion a matter of weeks ago.

Players from same team all becoming managers

Seem to be quite a few from Clough's Forest team went on to be managers, but that might be down to the longevity as much as anything else

The outcome from this will probably lead to more AFCers voting against the merger as they don't want anything to do with these Bury FC types, and who could blame them.

Must admit, purely from a voyeuristic point of view, the idea of two Bury teams coexisting has some appeal. It'll probably be on a par with the Old Firm in terms of being so opposed with each other, though obviously on a much smaller scale. Given a merged team could still take 10-20 years to return to the EFL, there is definitely some short term future in this.

But like I said, thats being voyeuristic. The reality is that the divided clubs has led to friends and family no longer speaking to each other which is impossible to fathom. All this over the letter "A".

Back to back matches against former Dale managers. Can't remember that ever happening whilst watching Dale.

Given that the Conference doesn't have a transfer window, any outgoings might not necessarily be today

Support works both ways.

He's not had the best start to the season - a lot of that is down to playing in the wrong position both individually and as a team. He showed last season that his strengths are more of an attacking threat than defending. Goal and an assist last night playing in positions he's been nowhere near since he first joined us.

I've no doubt he's been frustrated at the season and sensitive to a lot of the comments that have been made, often revolving around social media posts (I remember Hendo coming off social media a few years back for similar reasons) that have no relevance in the grand scheme of things.

Yes he shouldn't have done it and he should have acknowledged those fans staying back to applaud him and his team mates but lets not ostracise someone at a time when we really do need everyone pulling in the same direction.

Minor point but a student arriving from a non English speaking country in Year 10 or 11 would not count towards the school's results.

tbf its not like there was ever a massive "welcome to Rochdale Hornets" sign there

I think this is what was up:

It refers to a reception and ticket office which are no longer housed there. Would be misleading to stick with that.

Prior to that, it was something very similar referencing reception / ticket office

Fanzone
at 15:39 12 Aug 2022

As we've said all along, getting the Fanzone into something more than just Dale / Ratcliffe Bars is a long term project. Would be great to be able to spend the amount of money that Accy have done with their Coley's Bar (btw what a fantastic facility) but there's bigger fish to fry at this moment in time.

The Club have done their bit with the cheap drinks, opening after the game and getting BT Sports. You would not believe how many conversations we have had over drinks prices in there over the years without success.

We've got the iconic shirts up (again, you wouldn't believe how many brick walls we've spoken to over the years regarding this), and the retro goals and away fans goals has been amazingly easy to do (watch it now work tomorrow now). The goals being shown offer something different and for all the hundreds of pubs I've been to watching Dale away over the years, I've never seen anything like this. its a bit different and we hope laying out the welcome mat to away fans leads to Spotland getting back its reputation as a great away day and more away fans visiting = more £££.

There's more than can be and will be done, but its work in progress. We'd love to have the sort of outside fanzones that some clubs do, but given we've got bars already at the club, lets work on them rather than some outside marquee that we'll be perishing in between November and March.

There's more that we as fans can do too. We've got 4 decent venues at the club - The Spot (Studds), Dale Bar, 1907 Lounge and the Ratcliffe Suite. If you're having a function, get it booked at the Club. The more they are used, the more money for the Club which helps out the first team and will lead to more money spent on the venues.

Second favourites for relegation
at 11:33 25 Jul 2022

I think we'll concede less, especially with us having a defensive midfielder now, and I think we'll score more than last season given Hendo brings us exactly what was missed last year - someone being in the right place at the right time. That in itself should bring us a few more points.

Been called a RL sympathiser many a time over the years, but it is beyond despicable for someone to speak about the legal issues the club are facing as a way of knocking the Club. It's clutching at straws, but to side with those who threaten the future of the club tells you all you need to know.

Still cannot fathom how if Darlo couldn't afford to play there which seemed to be the reason for departing, then how could a rugby side?

Darlo of then would have had significantly higher crowds than the rugby, the EFL/TV money is one hell of a subsidy and the stadium was set up to generate cash from the crowd.
