Club/fan badges
at 12:40 12 Dec 2020

In 1983/84 I was working at a bakery on Ramsay Street. One of my colleagues, his name escapes me, but he was an amateur boxer, and he had an idea that some of the, let's say, handier Rochdale fans needed an identity for away games and he came up with the idea of the Chosen Few, as we were usually an outnumbered entity

He drew a template for the badge and showed it me for my approval. He then went on to order between 50 and a hundred badges.

I still have mine, and now and again still see the badge worn at matches.

Just remember, it was a different era in those days, with all football clubs having a "firm".

A few of lads that I do remember having the badge was Fizz, Buck Dalal, Nigel Green amongst others.

I've just posted to say that I didn't hear any moronic chanting. Also, sitting in the pearl Street and not the Sandy, I wasn't witness to any bad behaviour.
I can't post on things I didn't see or hear.

I personally didn't hear anything, but if that's the case then perhaps I have a different view.
Also, I was referring to the club being run on a shoestring budget, not referring to Coleman and Bell.

All the flags and banners looked brilliant and seemed to buoy the Accrington players.
Also, the Accy fans behaved exemplary. Proper football club.

Rip Nidge Green

So sad to hear the passing of Nidge Green, one of the 'boys' in the 80's, some great memories of the 'Chosen Few' going to away matches with Moggy et Al.
Fell on hard times recently, but I always went out of my way to speak to him.
Rest in peace mate, the perpetrators will get their come uppance.
Howy.

Man U tickets

Don't forget that this is the first day of open ticket sales, I think that over 3000 tickets sold so far is a great achievement.
By the end of play today I would expect us to have sold more tickets than our average seasonal home gate. Not bad really.

If I remember rightly, when we played Man It's in the 80's I think we took 62 coaches!

Excellent post. Totally agree about the continual bad comments from other posters regarding Burys demise.

How much would you care if bury fc went out of existence
at 09:58 27 Jul 2019

Yes, it would be a tragedy.
Would you rather Bury away on a wet Tuesday night, or Plymouth or Colchester? Also, we would miss out on a derby day pay day.

The people from this board have been posting on Burys board for years, warning them that their club could go under if the fans just sat back and did nothing.
Well, the chicken really has come home to roost.

Rochdale v Scunthorpe utd, August 1969. Scoreline 3-2 to the Dale.
Little did I know at the time that we would go on to win promotion that season.
My very first away game was at Bradford Park Avenue the same season, where we won 4-1.
I will always remember the Park Avenue game as my first encounter with football violence when, after the match, a few local scroats ran towards the Rochdale coaches to kick off with the Dale fans.
Did anyone else attend the Park Avenue game? I can't remember how many Dale fans made the trip that day, nor much about the match apart from Norman Whitehead scoring.
Did we play towards the large covered stand in the first half? Or towards the open end? I'm sure that I stood in the open end and when Rochdale scored my big brother told me to stay quiet, so we must have been standing amongst the Park Avenue fans.
I believe the match was recorded for Tyne tees TV.
I'm sure a very young Kevin Keegan featured for Scunthorpe that season.
