| News Comment | Why Would Jose Fonte Want To Go To Manchester United ? at 02:52:02
If an adequate replacement was sorted out, I'd be ok with this happening. It wouldn't be ideal but like the Lambert deal it would be nice to say goodbye to him properly. After all he has done for the club he deserves this move if he wants it. He would most likely still be there next season and United will probably be in the Champion's League then - for a guy that was in League 1 not long ago that'd be pretty cool for him. And as for his squad place at United - I think people are underestimating how much he would play. United fans were surprised when they signed Bailly because they have quite a few talented CBs coming through but no experienced on-field leader. Their fans seem to think that Blind shouldn't be a CB any longer than necessary, Jones is crap and Bailly and Smalling together would be a bit risky with them both being youngish, rash and not great on the ball. Fonte isn't amazing on the ball but he is used to playing out from the back at Saints. However, I'm not all that convinced this is true because none of their fans seem to have even noticed the rumour. |
| News Comment | Emery Favourite To Replace Koeman at St Mary's at 14:11:53
While Emery would clearly be an ideal appointment, I'm not sure how realistic it would be to get him to come here. I think he will stay at Sevilla. The general feeling from the Everton camp was that Emery was unlikely to leave but the Monchi might (their Director of Football). I feel like Emery might hold out for a Champions League club, plus Sevilla will be in the Champions league next season anyway after winning the Europa League |
| News Comment | Wanyama Ready To Snub Saints For Spurs at 12:40:57
I feel like selling Wanyama would probably be good for the club. He's a very good player but is not really good enough on the ball to be the sort of anchorman a lot of the top teams use. He was great for defensive security when we were still getting established in the premier league. But now we've started to make the progression to consistently challenging for European places i think it is time to bring in a player that can sit deep and defend, but also create as well. I don't think that any of our current midfielders other than Wanyama can play well enough as the anchorman. Im excited to see someone quality come in to this position. |
| News Comment | Vilhena Linked With Saints Again at 22:57:16
I feel like if we did sell Wanyama, he would need to be replaced by a more defensive player to keep the right balance in the squad. We currently have Wanyama (mostly defensive), Romeu (more defensive the attacking), Clasie (more attacking than defensive), Ward-Prowse (mostly attacking). And Reed I think is somewhere in the middle. From what I can tell Vilhena is more like Ward-Prowse than any of the others. Bit of a simplified way of looking at it but still applies I think. |
| News Comment | Do Saints Need To Sign Another Striker at 06:14:47
I agree with Big_T in that I would prefer Koeman to be a bit more brave in giving that group of more developed youngsters a good go, even if it results in less points - little difference between finishing 8th and 12th while we're preparing the squad for a better assault on the European places. Even having at least one of them on the bench each game so if we're winning they can be chucked on for the last 20-30mins. In relation to strikers, Pelle seems to be the only one that's good enough to lead the line with our style of play (the other four I think are far more effective in the 3 of a 4-2-3-1). I think Charlie Austin would suit but yeah don't know if he'd want to be 2nd choice. My hope would be that the scouting team could pluck an up and coming target man out of obscurity for 10mill like most of Saints buys. Pelle isn't gonna be around forever, |
| News Comment | Vilhena Rumours Resurface at 06:54:39
When Vilhena was first linked I was quite interested, as a replacement for Jack Cork (hoping he would be able to adapt defensively). But now I don't think it's worth it, wouldn't want to hurt the development of Reed or Ward-Prowse - as everyone else has said. I think they all (and Clasie) would be best suited to the box to box defensive midfielder, similar to how James McCarthy at Everton and Morgan Schneiderlin now at United play. Prowsey is maybe better further forward currently, but hopefully will improve defensively. The more defensive player of a classic midfield two is where we have less options, Wanyama and Romeu, but then next in line would probably be Dom Gape. |
