| News Comment | Southampton V Arsenal The Preview at 07:35:40
Although, I am normally a little pessimistic by nature, I have have two possibly outcomes for this one. 1. We battle hard, show amazing spirit, go a goal down, find a worldy in reply to equalise, only to lose by a single goal in the dying seconds. Giving RM a stay of execution and allowing us to go back to usual rubbish after the international break. Bear in mind we often do well against Arsenal. 2. They score two/three goals early on, we re-group hold them around halftime and get nailed later in the second half. Arsenal are a much better team this year than they have been for a long time and my predictions, although for defeat, are based on hope rather than good sense. |
| News Comment | The Red & White Wall Needs To Be Behind Saints Against Manchester United at 17:07:06
Although I have respect for your position and as far more knowledgeable people correctly point out "it only takes a second to score a goal". I simply ask when was the last time Saints scored a last minute or injury time goal to draw a game or better still get 2 to "grab victory from the jaws of defeat" in the Premier league era against the slimy 6? |
| News Comment | Southampton At Brentford The Damning Verdict at 10:50:20
Does anyone notice the similarities between the defence of their tactics by both Russel Martin and Nathan Jones. Albeit, Russel is, at the moment, less angry about questions regarding his abilities. I suspect as time goes on and pressure builds, he will turn on us and other questioning partys just as Nathan did. We all owe Russel Martin a debt of gratitude for last season but his complete inability to relax his principles will erode all that good will. |
| News Comment | Southampton Midfielder Shocked By Fans Booing At St Mary's at 01:15:34
People on here claiming Flynn Downes should be familiar with fans negative protests need to remember he is only here because he isn't good enough for them. In fact he wasn't good enough for them last year either and albeit with a successful European cup campaign, for a lot of last season not much better than us. Perhaps because he has spent so much time with RM he is a cheer leader who thinks not losing by not trying to win is enough for any fan. Who's sense of ration thinking is truly questionable? |
| News Comment | Southampton V Brighton The Verdict at 07:05:06
The way I see it is Ralf's high press tactics work well when we have Ings up top and a team full of energy and running. ATM we have neither, the reason Ralph invested so whole heartedly into HP was in his early days and the end of Mark Hughes' period we demonstrated a complete inability to do, what many are suggesting we try now and we attempted at Man City, stay deep and and hit teams on the break. Opposition teams are very aware of the passing abilities of JWP and work very hard to minimise them, likewise Armstrong's swift breaks from midfield. Yes Jan Bedders, JWP, RB look tired and so they should, they have been the almost ever presents this season and given the amount of disruption to our team due injuries to other have had to do more than their fair share for the cause. Are we truly asking Jack Stephens, and under 23s to replace them in a relegation scrap? IMHO neither Stuart Armstrong nor Danny Ings have been back to their consistent best since afflicted with Covid. Look even after Sunday's game I'm sure Brighton, Burley, Newcastle and Bournemouth would rather be in Saints position. |
| News Comment | 2017/18 Season Review - Ryan Bertrand at 14:05:53
I am led to believe that Ryan has been suffering with back issues all season and this information has been passed to the FA who wisely (for him and us) chose not to select him. This summer off will allow him to rest up prior to any further medical intervention. That might explain his moodiness and his lack of enthusiasm to charge up and down the wing, especially as there was little or no chance of finding anyone willing or able to get on the end of any resultant cross. |
| News Comment | Day 18 ! Can Saints Survive Without New Signings ? at 10:55:21
Clearly it seems to me almost nobody on here, at the club or even the guy himself believes Pellegrino is the answer as a Saints manager. We despite all our gum bumping cannot force the club to sack him. The club will not do a Stoke and sack him before finding a replacement. Koeman is in line to become his country's national manager, he has just received a major financial pay off and Saints previously put him in the position where he had little choice but leave, peeing us off in the process. Why would he want to get involved in a relegation scrap with bosses he does not trust. The Manager clearly needs to stay in position until he is replaced in order to secure his financial settlement. Unless the club can convince a manage with the calibre to join we are stuck with where we are. Until a new manager is appointed we will not attract the quality of player we need. |

The same size as his boots presumably...... This could go on for a while!!!! |
| News Comment | Half Term Report at 08:24:36
Saints were unstoppable early in the season when we had either Chaplow or Guly playing right side of midfield, albeit we let in goals but outscored our opponents. With guly going up top with SRL and the injury to Chappie we have looked less well balanced. Clearly neither Morgan or Cork are an acceptable replacement in that role. I feel our centre half pairing is now forging itself into potentially one of saints greatest, clearly it has taken a little time but I believe NA's patience is paying off. That said if either is injured we do not have a viable replacement for either. For me Mr Cortese needs to sort out the right side of mid-field one way or another (Guly, Puncheon, Oxo, Chappie or a new face) and support and competition at C.B. and C.F. |
| News Comment | Big Dilemma For Nigel at 06:58:18
Fundamentally all of this is part of the "game" sure any "big" club would want to sign an undoubted talent, teenage or not, for as little as they can. Failing to get a bargin price then they will want to mitigate their potential loss by linking that sale price to appearances, honours etc. Again if that is not achievable then the very last option is to leave that deal til the very last minute soas to not allow the selling club or competitors to adjust to the impact of the signing. Adding a sell on clause ups the ante as it reminds the buying club that if the player signed turns out to be a dud then they will bear an even greater financial hit for playing the game.... "Harry Redknapp you've been busted". |
| News Comment | Should They Stay Or Should They Go ? at 19:00:51
Splurty has nailed it with his comment re: Jaidi. The championship promotion is normally won by teams with monster centre forwards and I've not seen anybody for a number of years in a saints shirt who can deal with that brute force better than Jaidi. N.A. will obviously have to manage him well and pick his fights but i for one would rather R.J. was dealing with the bruisers in number 9 shirts than anyone on saints books at this moment. |
| News Comment | Saints V Walsall The Preview at 12:09:19
Lurking in the shadows just waiting to steal your thunder.... Get over yourself rjh, it would be great for football if every ground got a full house every single week but thats not gunna happen. Lets enjoy a full SMS with people who are enjoying Saints success and if the team continue with their form and the quality of the opposition improves I suspect the number of full houses will too. |
| News Comment | Time For A Permanent Tribute To Markus at 10:05:53
From all accounts Herr Lieberr was an understated man who shunned publicity and the "Lime Light". So I believe an understated honour would be more appropriate, possibly adding a small embroidered M.L. to the shirts might be an option, possibly below the collar at the neck above the Players names. |
| News Comment | Appalling Attitude From Brentford at 15:39:29
re1 knowing saints your sfc supporting friend will have absolutely no reason will have no need to sit on his hands with the only exception to wipe away his tears and they will not be suffering from pins and needles when he gives you your victorious hand shake before you head off to the hot spots of west london. |
| News Comment | Its That Pendulum Again at 11:01:02
Being life long Saints fans we all know they will put us through the emotional mangle. Yes if we win two of our three games we are home and dried but I do believe we will lose the other and that will probably be Brentford! God I hope not. |
| News Comment | Saints V Yeovil The Preview at 19:19:49
Paul Wotton will always have my respect. The last game of the season verses Sheffield United we had to win to stay up.... Paul Wotton played possibly his best game for us, won every battle in the middle of the park and in the dying seconds put his head in where it really hurt. Spending the final seconds and resulting pitch invasion unconscious. I know we were relegated 12 months on but nobody could have done more or given more that day |
| News Comment | Saints At Peterborough The Verdict at 12:01:57
I'm in agreement with Horton despite my deep held belief that Saints should show some respect to Kelvin especially over his actions during our darkest days and subsequent salvation. His readiness to give up premiership wages if not first team football was admirable, I will remain impressed by that attitude. However i do beleive it is time to give Bart a chance. |
| News Comment | Saints V Man Utd The Preview at 14:25:02
Just for the record I'd love to see Gary Neville get another outing switch Oxo to the left and let the fun begin.... My Suggested Saints Team:- Davies Razor Fonte Seabourne Harding Oxo Hammond Chappers Dickson Lambo Guly |
