Winsford 11:28 - Jul 29 with 6198 views | BamfordDale | Last pre-season friendly at 7.30pm. £6 at the gate. Not sure how many first teamers will get a run out. On a side issue, their website says that former Dale trialist Lois Maynard has signed for FC Halifax.

Winsford on 12:08 - Jul 30 by ColDale | the problem with Gray is that he cannot be considered as one of the youngsters any more. There's a fresh crop of kids who have come through, and another lot banging on the door. I know he's had the injury, and he's shown in the past he's got the talent, but the bar has been raised. He is supposed to be a couple of years ahead in the pecking order of some of the youngsters but performances wouldn't show this. |
I attended last nights game and to be fair he did alright on a pitch that grazing sheep would have turned their noses up at. He seemed to be deliberately playing a deeper role than I have seen him in before as well. A number of times he was picking the ball up in deep positions and trying to link the play. He had a direct hand in at least one of Godwin's goals (couldn't see too well as the pitch was so fooking far away) and he had to put up with a good number of kickings from some of their lads. One challenge in the 2nd half must have had him having nightmare flashbacks to last pre-season. However, he did at times look very frustrated and indeed there were a couple of occasions that he did a "Grimes" and had an air swipe at their players. The body language could certainly be improved and think he needs a massive Hilly arm around him at the moment. It does appear initially that by lining up last night he is not in Hill's immediate plans, but I would emphasise that we had Bunney in there too who is definitely in his plans (and incidentally was substituted too after a rather subdued performance). The point you raise about the next crop of kids is a good one, because one Winsford fella was complaining near me that we had sent all YTs to play them. I told him that our YTs of which there were only a couple anyway, would give anyone in L2 a good game on current form. When I heard my own words back I was very proud of what I believe to be a fact! Young Whitehall was a case in point with his finish off the bench which was tremendously sharp I must say!
Winsford on 13:13 - Jul 30 with 1012 views | Daley_Lama | Had their triallist been good enough for Dale rather than only good enough for Halifax v2.0 then we would probably have sent a full team down there to mow the lawn. Or then again probably not. I've always thought that teams should publish their line-up or likely line-up a bit before kick off (more than the hour) to give fans a fair clue as to whether they would want to watch the game.
