What would your starting line ups be now ??
0
starting line up on 14:47 - Jul 9 with 1898 viewsSimpkinsLeftPeg

Lillis/Collis

Bennett/Rafferty, Lancashire/Eastham/Maynard/O'Connor, Rose/Tanser

Cav/Tutte/Lund/Hery/BBM/Allen

Grant/Hogan, Done/Vincenti, Henderson/Logan

Donnelly/Gray/Bunney/Abadaki

That's two or more players for every position. And a lot of those players are interchangeable between positions.

I expect O'Connor, Tanser, Allen, Logan and Abadaki will be in the "development squad", but they're capable back-ups by all accounts.

Have we ever been in a position as strong as this, especially just over a week into July?!

While I don't think he's produced consistently, I think Tutte is amongst the most technically gifted players at the club. Some of his performances in the first half of last season were outstanding, he showed that he could dominate the midfield as well as being a goal threat. He was anonymous in just as many other performances.

I was surprised when Hilly offered him a 2 year deal, and equally surprised when Tutte signed it! I didn't think the two of them got on, either on a personal or professional level, but the new deal suggests they're both more than happy to work together. There's certainly talent there, and if Hilly thinks he can get Tutte firing then thats good enough for me.

Given his age, style of play, and goalscoring record, I imagine a good start to the season will see Tutte as something of a hot property. Certainly in the six figure transfer fee category.

"Certainly in the six figure transfer fee category."

A six-figure sum!! For a player who didn't seem to attract much, if any, attention from other clubs when his contract ran out at the end of last season? It'd have to be one hell of a start of the season from him for clubs to suddenly start waiving six figure sum cheques in the air.

I may be wrong, but I think Tutte will not be in Hilly's starting central midfield. He'll be used from the bench - and predominatley on the right.

From what I've seen
Lillis
Rafferty Lancashire Eastham Rose
Cavanagh Allen
Henderson Tutte Hogan
Donnelly

That's considering Grant probably won't be here and Bennett won't be fit. If Vidal and Maynard sign that might change it. I'm still yet to see Lund and Maynard.

If you ask fans of other clubs who played us last season which players stood out for us, most will say Tutte. I've seen his name mentioned countless times from other fans.

For what it's worth, I agree with every word of Brierls' post.

For what it's worth, I don't agree with the suggestion that Tutte will be - if he has a good start to the season - subject to bids in excess of £100,000.

I'm not being sarcastic Shun, I just don't see it. I really don't see it.

All I can go off is what I've seen, that is, an inconsistent player that, despite boundless energy expended chasing players and a decent goal ratio, appears to need three extra touches before he releases the ball and often goes missing. I would be delighted if Hill unearths another gem in Tutte, it's not personal. Just my humble opinion that Hill may not consider him a starter.

I'm really sorry I'm not on message with this one Shun, Chaff etc.

Question is where is he going to play him? We know the way the team will be lining up this season now. He'll be down the pecking order for out wide, so I can't see him figuring there. He's not going to be the one behind the front man, whilst I think he could do this role, he'll be behind the likes of Done and Gray to play this role, so that leaves the two central midfielders. Did him and Cav form a working partnership last season? Ordinarily it worked with Cav and JK, with Tutte allowed more freedom (a role that won't be there this season). Cav's place should be assured, so it's mostly a case of who is better to replce JK - Tutte or Lund? And given Lund was signed as a direct replacement for JK, it's not going to be easy for Tutte to make it into the starting line up.

When you say we know how we will set up, what do you mean? Is this from the friendly or from the players we are signing? I'd imagine 4231 or some sort of 433. In which as you say it's looking hard for tutte to play, but if he does it will be through very good competition

I completely agree. I think Lund will be the direct replacement for JK. Tutte is not good or quick enough on the ball for the playmaker role. Cav will be assured as the holding midfield role (with BBM as back-up) and Done will play the role in which he was a revelation last time (in the so-called hole). Tutte will play, but I think it will be initially from the bench and it will be up to him from then.
For me, that's about right as well as he's not shown, on a consistent basis, that he is a first-choice holding midfielder, play-maker and/or in the hole.

Is josh Lillis a strong enough keeper, we look good all over the pitch with several players for each position, just slightly concerned josh got no real pressure from another strong keeper

I think hes a good enough keeper and would like to hope he could make the step up to a higher level. I do think though that he is very confidence reliant (as a lot of players are) and the way we were defending at times last year looked to have him shot to pieces but he still had the ability to pull off some saves he had no right to make, later in the season he seemed to be coming on a bit so hopefully with a good break and maybe a different mantra from a new GK coach and backroom set up we will see the best of him.

No worries, and no need to apologise. I do believe an element to Tutte's hype is his energy and he often seems more busy than effective, but I'm still a fan of his.

The coming season will tell!

Can't see Hilly offering and him agreeing to a new 2 year contract to play him from the bench as you say,by all accounts he's on a decent wage for the privilege,im afraid im of a different opinion on this one and really rate Tutte,i agree he has gone missing in previous games but his capability to score a goal and his energy provide a class box to box centre mid we need so badly and as we've seen previously under Hill he loves an attacking centre midfielder. For the record i don't think we've yet seen the best of him either by a long way

Lillis
Rafferty-Lancashire-Eastham-Rose
Tutte-Cavanagh
Hogan-Done-Henderson
Donnelly.

This would be my first choice for the starting XI come the Hartlepool game, and I also believe it will be Hill's first choice as things stand. I think there will still be time for this to change however, particularly after the Preston & Blackburn friendlies against more challenging opposition.

I disagree. Lund was brought in specifically to replace Kennedy. He is a ball-playing play-maker type that Hill rates very highly.

I agree with TalkingSutty's post on another thread in relation to Hill and possession football. A midfield of Cav and Tutte would simply not give you the ball retention to play the type of possession football Hill wants to create.

In the spine of the team Cav will play, Lund will play and Done will play.

I don't see why Hilly would tie Tutte down to a two year deal, a player he regularly picked when he was fit towards the end of last season, and then drop him after we've lost another of our central midfielders.

If Lund does start, I can't see Tutte being the man to miss out for him. Maybe Hogan will miss out and Done will move to a wider position with Lund or Tutte in a more attacking role.

Let's not forget that Hilly needs a squad. Tutte can play right, central or in the hole so he's versatile. They'll be games when Tutte's energy will be vital - tricky away games.
