By Black Sabbath, anyone been listening to It and what do you think?
I've heard a few tracks via Planet Rock and I know you should give It time but It aint doing It for me.
suppose they'll never reach the heights of 'Paranoid' and the superb 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath'

Anyway,

havent heard it yet but a couple of friends have said its pretty good, wont rush to buy it as I dont expect it to be a patch on the classic albums.

Seems to me that most rock artists do the majority of their best work in the first flush, I can't really think of many examples where really good work has been produced in a second coming although sometimes there are improved interpretations of original songs

Ozzie's voice has gone and Iommi is probably dieing, no Bill Ward, so you only have the magnificient Geezer Butler.
You can't really expect much, though Tony no doubt kept a couple of great riffs in his locker.

Children Of The Grave
Iron Man
War Pigs
Fairies Wear Boots
Symptom Of The Universe

are my five favourite Sabbath songs, they are their legacy.

I thought they sounded pretty reasonable considering it's been 30 years.

Haven't heard the whole thing yest but loved 'The age of Reason'. Heard a few riffs that sound awesome in snippets.

I dunno what is up with Ozzys' recorded voice, at Download last year it sounded like the old Sabbath. Missing Bill Wards jazzy style though for sure.

What no Sweet Leaf?

Just listened to 13, have to say it's a million miles away from the original Sabbath Lineup's albums. They've almost become a Tribute act to themselves sadly.

All the albums up until Ozzy's departure were fantastic. I even like the Never Say Die album.

There are so many songs that are truly as original as they are defining. Has there ever been a groundbreaker like the opening track on "Black Sabbath". The rain and eerie Bell before that riff crashes through the roof fading out to Bill Ward's atmospheric drum pieces?

Then there's Spiral Architect later on, I think Geezer is possibly one of the best lyricists ever.

'A national Acrobat' is amazing on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath too.

Can't believe no one has mentioned

The First 3 Black Sabbath Albums will never be matched and should be used as a measurement of natural disasters (as quoted by Henry Rollins). The new album was never going to touch their legacy. It doesn't match up. Surprising as the stuff the band did with Dio as Heaven & Hell a couple of years ago is great. The last truly brilliant music they all made was with Dio with the Sabbath 'Heaven & Hell' and 'Mob Rules' albums.

its probably like the bowie album. Certainly not his best but the more you hear the songs the more you like them and the more they grow on you.

As somebody else said its 30 years on it was never going to match their best.

Give me one band with longevity that keeps churning stuff out that's good.

I can think of iron maiden and not much more.

Dehumanizer is a good album.

You just can't roll back the years, the bollocks have dropped too far down the thighs.
I just hope when they go on tour they don't think they've reverted back to their twenties and indulge all the old habits, asking for trouble.

Some of the Sabbath riffs were great.

I'd be interested to know what people think of this song, recorded about the same time, early 70's.

edit... a West London band too :o) Vocalist Nick Graham was a founder member of Atomic Rooster.
